About the Position

Treatment Action Group (TAG) is seeking a dynamic, seasoned, and strategic leader to become TAG’s Chief Operating Officer, supporting the organization as it continues to grow. This position will report to TAG’s Executive Director. This is a full-time, salaried role.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide critical support to the Executive Director, overseeing the various departments that help TAG execute its mission, including administration/operations, communications, development, finance, and human resources. The COO will leverage their experience, skills, and expertise to help TAG scale, increase its impact, and set its teams up for long-term success.

Treatment Action Group (TAG) is an independent, activist, and community-based research and policy think tank committed to racial, gender, and LGBTQ+ equity; social justice; and liberation, fighting to end HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Key Duties & Responsibilities May Include:

Operations and Process

Oversee, coordinate, and harmonize the functions that support TAG’s programs, including administration/ operations, communications, development, finance, human resources, and information technology (IT).
Design and implement processes in an inclusive manner, with priority on:HR processes (recruiting, onboarding, and performance evaluations);
Processes and workflows to drive collaboration across departments and/or functional areas, including project management;
Contracting processes to support programs with external partners or vendors.
Work with the Executive Director and the HIV, HCV, TB, and Policy Directors to ensure that TAG’s administrative/operations, communications, development, finance, and HR teams work effectively and synergistically to support TAG’s mission and work.
Ensure that TAG’s core values including our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and representation (DEIR), are woven into our processes, priorities, and ways of working with each other.
Organizational Leadership and Management

Support Executive Director and the Board of Directors in setting organizational strategy, including communications and development goals, financial and excellence, and continued impact being driven by TAG’s programs.
Stay attuned to the growth goals of the organization, while ensuring that staff across the organization are supported and that their work is aligned with TAG’s vision, mission, and values.
Provide day-to-day leadership to support direct reports and staff in executing their responsibilities, with particular emphasis on events, initiatives, processes and projects that are cross-departmental or organization-wide.
Partner with TAG’s program and administrative directors to engage and manage relationships with external partners and funders.
Background and Experience

A minimum of 5 years of total experience in similar roles (with potentially different titles), including several years with hands-on management experience;
A clear understanding of organizational administration/operations, communications, development and fundraising, finance (ideally in the non-profit space), human resources, and IT;
Hands-on experience designing and implementing processes and doing so inclusively, especially in the areas of HR and contracting;
Experience supporting small to medium-size organizations as they grow;
Receptivity and responsiveness to feedback;
Curiosity and willingness to learn about new, technical subject matters;
Demonstrated experience or commitment to working in a multicultural environment where commitment to diversity based on race, ethnic and national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and physical ability is an important institutional value;
Enthusiasm for TAG’s mission is a must; familiarity with advocacy, public health, policy making, or lived experience with the conditions on which TAG works, is a plus.
Salary & Benefits

The annual compensation will be $120,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience and skills. TAG offers a competitive benefits package that includes fully employer paid health insurance for the employee and their dependent(s), and generous paid vacation (starting at four weeks, plus additional paid sick leave and holidays). TAG provides professional development opportunities and a flexible work environment. TAG is an eligible employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

Location and Hours

This is an exempt position, with 40 hours per week expected generally within TAG’s office hours (10am-6pm ET). Work on evenings and weekends may be required.

TAG does not currently require employees to work from our New York City headquarters. While TAG is open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S. who are able to work within TAG’s office hours and travel to New York City for team planning and special events (pandemics allowing), candidates based in the New York City area are preferred. TAG does not have the capacity to provide visa support. Only candidates with existing authorization to work in the U.S. will be eligible.
