JOB SUMMARY: The Director, Women’s Rights and Reproductive Health (Director) is a part of the Women’s Rights and Reproductive Health team, based in Schusterman’s Washington, DC office. The Director is responsible for planning and implementing the women’s rights and reproductive health philanthropic program of Schusterman, which seeks to: 1) advance women’s rights and gender equity; 2) prevent sexual harassment and abuse; and 3) promote reproductive health and protect reproductive rights, including access to abortion, contraception and sex education. Initial efforts will focus on our major investments, including the Women’s Rights and Reproductive Health Funding Collaborative and the Safety Respect Equity Coalition (SRE). The Director reports to the Co-President, who leads the US Jewish portfolio and co-leads the Women’s Rights and Reproductive Health portfolio, with a dotted line to the Chief Operating Officer, who co-leads the Women’s Rights and Reproductive Health portfolio. The Director will oversee grantmaking, programmatic and leadership initiatives, such as SRE, and special projects related to Schusterman’s Women’s Rights and Reproductive health agenda.
QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications are representative of the high level of demonstrated skills, maturity, judgement and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies required of Schusterman employees:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in related field, preferred
At least 10 years in non-profit management, grantmaking and/or the philanthropic sector required.
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to develop cooperative and effective working relationships with supervisory personnel, co-workers, colleagues, grantees, partners, and the general public required.
Demonstrated expertise in women’s rights and reproductive health and rights and familiarity with state and national organizations advancing women’s rights and reproductive health required. Familiarity with international women’s rights organizations desired.
Strategic and leadership skills, including the ability to design and implement a strategic plan required.
Sophisticated knowledge of political and ideological currents in the field, and a clear capacity to navigate them diplomatically and skillfully required.
Strong track record in building and managing partnerships, portfolios and programs required.
Proven ability to successfully manage professionals required.
Demonstrated and compelling presentation skills required.
Analytic and research abilities necessary to collect and evaluate data and identify opportunities to utilize Schusterman resources effectively required.
Excellent judgment, an ability to exercise discretion and tact in difficult or confidential situations and an ability to project a positive, professional image to the public required.
A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion required.
PC skills (with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as a thorough knowledge of: (a) modern office practices and procedures; (b) the use of office machines and equipment; and (c) basic web skills and comfort required. Knowledge of Fluxx preferred.
Ability to travel up to 30%, with occasional international, required.
COMPENSATION: Competitive salary based on experience and on Schusterman’s commitment to internal equity. A strong benefits package is also included. Schusterman does not cover relocation expenses for this position.
