Position: Louisiana Campus Organizer
The Feminist Majority Foundation is seeking highly motivated and passionate current students (sophomore to senior years) to organize around reproductive health, rights, and justice on colleges and universities in Louisiana as State Campus Organizers for FMF’s Feminist Campus program. The Louisiana Campus Organizer will operate remotely along the Mississippi Campus Organizer and National Campus Organizers as part of a team.
The Louisiana State Campus Organizer will assist National Campus Organizers with development of campus infrastructure in Louisiana, as well as growing the program on existing and new campuses. On every campus where FMF organizes, we explicitly use an intersectional framework, connecting feminist advocacy with multiple issues impacting women of color and vulnerable communities, including but not limited to voter suppression, gender-based violence, racial justice, and economic empowerment.
- Launch and maintain pro-choice, feminist activist groups called Feminist Majority Leadership Alliances (FMLAs) and affiliated feminist groups who identify themselves with other names
- Visit colleges and universities in Louisiana to build relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Lead Feminist Campus campaigns around reproductive health, rights, and justice
- Maintain regular and consistent contact with National Campus Organizers to inform the D.C. office staff of statewide and local issues, insights, and opportunities in Louisiana
- Correspond with the National Campus Team to coordinate travel, trainings, logistical support, capacity building, and technical assistance
- Develop and maintain a campus activist database through data entry and regular reporting
- Set goals and create strategic plans around Feminist Campus campaigns and related issues
- Represent the Feminist Campus program and the Feminist Majority Foundation at conferences and events
- Participate in planning and implementing national and local conferences and special events
- Provide issues-based and leadership trainings to feminist campus groups
- Participate in local coalition work and coalition building
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Current and valid driver’s license (necessary for traveling)
- Prior leadership experience working on social justice issues; including, but not limited to, being involved in a feminist group, LGBTQIA+ group, racial justice group, environmental group, or in student government
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to work remotely and be a self-starter
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and G Suite, social media proficiency, and technological adaptability
- Excellent public speaking skills
- Solution-oriented, team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for networking and communicating with others, whether by telephone, text, email, social media, or while attending conferences and workshops
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Commitment to moving the feminist movement forward and passion for creating positive social change
- Familiarity with HBCUs (historically Black colleges and universities)
- Endurance to work on long grassroots campaigns
- Basic experience with graphics creation
- Sense of humor
This position is part-time with an expected commitment of 10-20 hours a week, and will be paid hourly at the rate of $15/hr. This position also requires travel throughout the academic year and regular communications with students, faculty, and staff on campuses with FMLAs and affiliated groups.
