Overview

The Position

The National Women’s Law Center seeks a Senior Grants Accountant to join their finance team.  The Senior Grants Accountant will be responsible for budgeting, post-award administration, financial accounting and audit preparedness for all grants.  Additionally, the Senior Grants Accountant will also be responsible for ensuring that revenue from all sources (restricted and unrestricted) is reported in an accurate manner with associated reporting provided to senior leadership in a timely manner. Under the guidance of the Controller, the Senior Grants Accountant will work with both the Development and Accounting teams to develop process improvements and transparency for improved efficiencies between the two teams with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities

Revenue/Grants Management

o   Management of grant funding including, but not limited to, grant billing, journalizing grant-related transactions, preparing reports, and reconciling grants to general ledger.

o   Collaborate with Finance and Development staff, to prepare budget-related materials and supporting documentation required for submission of grant proposals, renewals, budget modifications.

o   Prepare donor financial reports for grants with reporting requirements and comply with specific requirements as stated in grant agreements.

o   Assist the Development team in monitoring and tracking all revenue and expenses related to grant funded programs.

o   Verify all cash receipts are entered accurately in the accounting system.

o   Conduct reconciliation of systems including Sage Intacct and Blackbaud Raisers Edge to ensure data is accurate and up to date during the month-end close process for all revenue sources.

o   Ensure the timely projection of all revenue sources and manage year-end process of recording and reconciling revenue with Development and Finance teams. 

Other Financial Responsibilities

o   During the annual budgeting process, manage the revenue portion of the new budget by communication with various teams to accurately reflect known and anticipated restricted revenue sources.

o   Prepare and enter journal entries as needed for all revenue sources.

o   Assist the Controller with preparation of annual audit schedules related to restricted and unrestricted revenue and 990 schedules.

o   Assist the Controller, the VP of Finance and Administration, in the development of policies and procedures to fulfill grant accounting and compliance requirements.

o   Occasional work on special projects.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

·         B.S or B.A in Accounting or Finance

·         Minimum of five years of financial nonprofit finance experience, with a focus on grant accounting.

·         Excellent organizational and time management skills – must be able to work effectively under pressure, handle multiple tasks/demands simultaneously, and adapt quickly to shifting priorities

·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·         Strong knowledge of US GAAP, and non-profit financial accounting principles

·         Experience with Sage Intacct

·         Experience with creating and tracking budgets and budget proposals

Additional preferred skills and knowledge:

·         CPA preferred but not required

·         Experience with donor management software is desirable

·         Demonstrated commitment to gender and racial justice  

·         Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment.

·         Demonstrated ability to multi-task, to work independently and within strict time constraints.

·         Advanced skills in Excel

Key Relations

The Senior Grants Accountant will report directly to the Controller. This position will collaborate closely with the Finance and Development teams as well VP of Finance and Administration.  

Compensation & Benefits

A minimum salary of $74,500 will be provided to the successful candidate who has at least 5 years of experience directly relevant to this role, consistent with the National Women’s Law Center’s compensation framework.

The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, and four weeks of annual vacation.  NWLC is located on Metro’s Red Line in Dupont Circle.
