Overview

The Position

The National Women’s Law Center seeks an Assistant to provide critical administrative support to the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund and the Legal Network for Gender Equity. These projects connect individuals experiencing sex discrimination and sex harassment in the workplace, education, and health care with attorneys.  The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund also provides financial support to defray the costs of legal representation and/or public relations assistance in select cases involving workplace sexual harassment. The position is for a term ending on December 31, 2021 with a possibility of extension dependent on the continued availability of funding.  This is a non-exempt position.

The Organization

The National Women’s Law Center fights for gender justice — in the courts, in public policy, and in our society — working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls. 

We use the law in all its forms to change culture and drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes our society and to break down the barriers that harm all of us — especially those who face multiple forms of discrimination, including women of color, LGBTQ people, and low-income women and families.

Responsibilities

Billing Support: 

·         Receive, organize and process bills for payment from attorneys and public relations firms for the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund;

·         Respond to questions from attorneys and public relations firms regarding the billing process;

·         Contact and check references for attorneys applying for funding from TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund.

Administrative Support:

     ·     Assist with conference, event, and meeting organization, preparation, and execution.

  • Write and send out newsletters, mass emails and other correspondence for the Legal Network for Gender Equity and TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund.
  • Assist in responding to questions by phone and email from individuals seeking assistance from the Legal Network.
  • Assist in responding to questions by phone and by email from attorneys in the Legal Network.
  • Proofreading and formatting fact sheets and flyers in InDesign.
  • Maintain files and accurately maintaining and adding information to databases.
  • Posting and formatting content on the NWLC website using WordPress.
  • As needed: providing other program, administrative, and organization-wide support (e.g. limited back-up receptionist).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least two years of college or two years of relevant experience.
  • Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including experience with managing spreadsheets in Excel.
  • Experience with working on billing or accounting.
  • Experience with direct services, especially experience working with survivors of sexual harassment and sexual violence.
  • Strong attention to detail, proofreading, and excellent written and oral communications skills.

Additional preferred skills and knowledge:

·         Experience with InDesign and WordPress.

·         Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced, diverse and inclusive team setting, remaining flexible, resourceful and proactive.

·         A demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and complete work independently.

·         Experience with low-income communities, communities of color, and/or LGBTQI communities.

Key Relations

The Program Assistant will report directly to the Program Manager for TULDF work closely with the Manager for Cash and Payables as well as with the Director, Senior Counsel, and the Associate for TULDF.  

Compensation & Benefits

A minimum salary of $46,000 will be provided to the successful candidate who has at least two years of college or two years of relevant work experience consistent with the National Women’s Law Center’s compensation framework. 

The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, and four weeks of annual vacation.  NWLC is located on Metro’s Red Line in Dupont Circle.
