WHO WE ARE
Movement Alliance Project (formerly Media Mobilizing Project) has been a part of Philadelphia’s movement ecosystem since 2005. Over recent years, Movement Alliance Project (MAP) has developed into a hub for local movement building for justice, dignity, and power.

We’re conveners, facilitators, administrative professionals and former campaigners who enjoy working together. We strive to build the strength of the local movement ecosystem so that social movements can transform material conditions for Black, brown, poor, and working people to reflect the care, well being, and dignity all people deserve.

WHAT WE DO
Movement Alliance Project works to build a healthy movement ecosystem where organizations succeed in making transformational social change. We collaborate with organizations and alliances to develop strategy, collectivize administrative capacity, and convene groups to deepen the interconnection and solidarity within and across sectors of organizing. We provide fiscal sponsorship to an array of projects working towards social justice. Core to our organizational practice is pairing study, evaluation, and reflection with action, collaboration, and experimentation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Movement Alliance Project is in growth mode, and we view that as an opportunity to be intentional about the kind of organization we want to be as we continue to grow. We’re cleaning up past transactions and have exciting plans to transform our policies, procedures and ways we use technology. We’re balancing the day to day transactional needs of our organization while designing and implementing new financial systems.

The Financial Systems and Reporting Manager is responsible for oversight of MAP’s financial system and financial reporting functions. They will be the leading resource for financial systems maintenance and financial reports provided to program staff and leaders of the fiscally sponsored projects. They will serve primarily as the financial systems administrator for the finance team. They will also prepare, analyze, and share financial reports and support training and documentation efforts across the finance team. The ideal candidate has a strong experience with financial process flows, data management, and financial system best practices. The ideal candidate possesses leadership capabilities, solid operational and technical accounting background, and works proactively to drive results.

REQUIRED SKILLS FOR THIS ROLE

  • Four or more years of experience managing grants and/or nonprofit financial systems
  • Budgeting experience
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software, additional third-party integrations (like Certify, Expensify, Concur), complex spreadsheets, and data management systems
  • Demonstrated skill in providing a high level of service to multiple customers/partners/collaborators, ideally in a nonprofit context,
  • Ability to pay close and accurate attention to details
  • Ability to communicate financial information to people with varying levels of financial literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate clear objectives, listen generously, and drive accountability
  • A willingness to do the work! Open and eager to work both in the weeds and at a high level

WE HOPE YOU BRING ONE OR MORE OF THESE BONUS SKILLS

  • Experience in community organizing; community roots in Philadelphia
  • Knowledge of fiscal sponsorship and/or multi-entity structures
  • Experience working as part of a team delivering coordinated services
  • BA/BS degree or higher in business, nonprofit financial management, or accounting
  • Experience working in a virtual environment, strongly preferred

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Systems

  • Lead the configuration, implementation and maintenance of Certify, expense management software
  • Identify opportunities to increase automation and integration of financial functions
  • Support the Director of Operations & Finance in planning and managing projects related to systems integration and adoption, including project scoping, determination of key success indicators, project milestones, goals, and task assignments
  • Train employee users in the use of the financial systems
  • Coordinate the workflow and best practices documentation to support the use of financial systems and comply with required policies and procedures
  • Participate in process improvement projects and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and quality
  • Work with the accounting team to ensure timely and accurate processing of payables, deposits, and billings

Reporting

  • Prepare financial reports and oversee the distribution of the reports across the organization, programs and projects, and funders
  • Create ad hoc reports that support the Finance team
  • Serve as contact for multiple project staff, providing financial analysis, management support, and guidance
  • Work with project directors to comply with the funder’s terms and conditions, manage deliverables, monitor spending, request amendments, and plan spend-out
  • Support the Director of Operations & Finance by coordinating the annual budget process
  • Support budget creation, budget projections, and analysis of expenses as needed
  • Assist with document requests for annual audits.
  • Perform other duties as required

Movement Alliance Project is a hybrid workplace rooted in Philadelphia. Employee chooses if they want to work in person, hybrid or 90% remote with ability and willingness to attend in-person events in Philadelphia multiple times a year when safe to gather. As a community-based organization, preference will be given to candidates in Philadelphia and its surrounding counties.

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
Salary: $75-80K, pending experience + benefits. Exempt, full time, 35 hours per week

To discourage practices of negotiating that have historically reinforced larger systems of inequality, starting salary offers will be determined by Movement Alliance Projected based on 1) the employee’s years of experience in positions of similar responsibility; and 2) any technical skill sets directly relevant to the position.

Benefits: 90% covered medical insurance, 401K plan, one-time home office stipend, flexible schedule outside of core working hours.

Holidays and Paid Time Off: 25 vacation days, 8 holidays plus 2 paid office closures annually (week of July 4 and December 24-January 1), plus sick, bereavement, and parental leaves.
