Job Description:
SUMMARY
This is responsible but limited journey level technical work in electric and gas distribution system construction, maintenance and repair.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under limited supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its intermediate technical skills and construction knowledge.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Depending on the area of assignment:
Constructs, maintains and repairs energized underground distribution systems of 600v or less.
Constructs, maintains and repairs energized overhead distribution systems of 600v or less. Constructs, maintains, and repairs pressurized gas distribution systems of 60 psig or less (LP and Natural).
Under direct supervision, constructs, maintains, and repairs de-energized overhead and underground electric distribution systems of all voltages.
Under direct supervision, constructs, maintains and repairs gas distribution systems of all pressures.
Installs single-phase electric meters.
Installs telecommunication systems cable and conduit.
Inspects installed underground civil infrastructure for compliance with specifications and design.
Ensures contractors adhere to utility standards.
Completes necessary job-related paperwork.
Checks work orders for materials needed. Coordinates issuance and return of materials for installed facilities.
Operates a variety of motor-operated construction equipment including, but not limited to, excavating and trenching equipment.
Cleans and services tools and equipment.
Responds to gas and electric emergency situations.
Maintains SCBA qualifications and works in IDLH environments when required.
Establishes and maintains qualifications on all covered tasks required to construct, maintain, and repair gas facilities under 60 psig per Federal Regulations.
Evaluates and qualifies personnel of equal or lesser classifications on all covered tasks required to construct, maintain and repair gas facilities under 60 psig per Federal Regulations.
Works in accordance with all safety regulations.
Attends work on continuous and regular basis.
May construct, maintain, and repair street light fixtures and associated infrastructure.
Completes the installation of a conduit system and associated underground electric service.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Depending on the area of assignment:
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and six (6) months experience as a construction laborer, including use of tools and equipment used in construction; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATIONS OR LICENSES
Licenses
Valid Florida Driver License required at time of appointment and at all times while employed in this classification.
Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class “A” required within 6 months from time of appointment.
Certifications
Work will require drug testing as prescribed by federal and/or state regulations.
Persons hired into this classification must participate in the GRU Progression Through Training Program (PTTP) for the Line Technician classification.
