Global Health Corps (GHC) mobilizes a global community of emerging leaders to build the movement for health equity. GHC believes young leaders with diverse backgrounds and a deep commitment to collaboration, innovation, and social justice are going to revolutionize how the world tackles its toughest health challenges.
Through a competitive recruitment process, we identify daring and innovative university graduates and early- to mid-career professionals from around the world and pair them with amazing partner organizations and government agencies in the US, East Africa, and Southern Africa. Our fellows spend a year in their placement devoting their unstoppable energy to making the world a healthier place for all people, everywhere.
Fellows convene throughout the year for additional training, community building, leadership development, and mentorship in order to become audacious, resilient, and highly-networked changemakers. We believe that our positive impact on health equity is strongest through a well-connected and diverse community. As such, we are seeking an action-oriented, adaptive leader with knowledge of and passion for US health equity and social justice who is excited about building connection and accelerating professional growth of our community members. With more than 1000 global health leaders in the GHC network, the US Community Impact Coordinator will foster relationships within and between fellowship classes and the broader GHC alumni community and maintain a strong partnership between GHC and alumni. The candidate will also support the development and execution of leadership, equity and justice programming and chapter engagement to encourage community building and collaboration among our alumni.
Equity and Justice Programming (30%)
· Solicit community input and engagement through individual or group conversations, surveys, programs, and other methods to inform the design and execution of equity and justice programming for the GHC community.
· Working with the Global Alumni Team, build a culture that promotes trust, engagement, discourse, learning and accountability around equity and justice.
· Develop and execute programs for the GHC community to advance equity and justice, including developing content, sharing resources, establishing and managing partnerships.
· Develop strategies to increase engagement across the community and foster courageous dialogue on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, both within the community and the larger ecosystem where our alumni serve.
· Build and maintain knowledge of learnings, resources, tools, strategies and best practices in equity and justice-based leadership development, particularly in racial, gender and ethnic justice.
US-based Alumni Chapter Coordination (30%)
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with GHC US-based chapter leadership and chapter members; review annual plans and proposed chapter programming ideas, provide accountability and support to chapter leaders to successfully execute their plans on time and on budget and support the transition of chapter leadership annually.
· Coordinate quarterly calls with chapter members and Country Team staff in GHC’s alumni chapter countries of operation, to facilitate exchange of best practices and experiences of alumni in other countries; recruit new chapter leadership as needed.
· Coordinate the expansion of alumni activities to new cities and countries, supporting the growth and development of the alumni network and various country activities.
· Working closely with the Community Impact Team and Global Alumni Team, develop and streamline tools to support alumni chapter activities, i.e. budget and email templates, tracking documents, etc.
· Support the development and execution of a Collective Action Coalition in the United States based off of GHC’s experience in East and Southern Africa.
Leadership Development Programming (20%)
· Engage closely with alumni and chapter leaders and review survey data from US-based alumni to inform the design and development of a US-alumni program strategy.
· Identify new leadership and professional development opportunities and potential partnerships which are aligned with alumni needs in the United States and the Global Alumni Strategy.
· Organize and implement professional development events in the US to support community building and facilitate exchange of best practices and experiences among alumni related to US health and social justice.
· Organize and implement networking events for US alumni and global health leaders, particularly in conjunction with large Global Health conferences and events
· Organize and implement Leadership Summits for US-based alumni leadership development, including coordinating with facilitators and attendees, overseeing logistics and event planning, and creating and executing workplans and materials.
· Draft templates, guides, checklists, and lessons learned for communications efforts, external engagement, community engagement and alumni leadership and professional development programming.
Community engagement (10%)
· Build and maintain strong professional relationships with GHC alumni and the Global Alumni Team to support the mobilization of community members in alignment with the Community Impact Strategy.
· Working closely with the Impact and Learning Manager and Director of Community Impact to conduct mapping of the GHC alumni community in the United States including their experiences, skills, needs, participation, and networks to drive programming and engagement.
· Working closely with the Digital Engagement lead, mobilize US-based alumni to utilize the Community Portal for professional development resource sharing and collaboration, including supporting a campaign to include profile completion for data collection.
· Support the development and management of the Global Health Corps online portal (the GHC Community Portal) and the execution of the Community Impact Team’s digital engagement strategy, including content generation, metrics tracking, and online engagement with alumni.
Knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation and team support (10%)
· Manage contracts, agreements and invoices for vendors related to GHC’s Equity and Justice programming, Collective Action Coalitions and US Alumni Chapter programming, or others as necessary.
· Working closely with the Impact and Learning Manager, monitor and evaluate key engagement and program metrics and present findings to drive learning and improvement of program offerings
· Update Salesforce with relevant information about US alumni engagement for reporting and program impact metrics.
· Provide other support for the Community Impact Team and Global Alumni Team, as relevant and necessary to meeting the organizational goals.
· 3-5 years work experience in leadership development, education, community mobilization, volunteer management, social impact, or related field
· Strong communication and community mobilization skills; experience building and sustaining professional relationship, specifically with community groups, students, or volunteers
· Program planning and execution experience; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with ease, careful attention to detail and accuracy and timely execution and follow-through
· High emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills and excellent decision-making judgment and an ability to thrive in evolving and expanding program areas
· Experience working in a cross-cultural professional environment and experience working/volunteering with people with different cultures, backgrounds, and opinions
· Strong knowledge of public health, social justice, and racial equity issues in the United States; commitment to social justice and passion for global health equity
· Experience leading groups (students, volunteers, colleagues, etc.) in racial justice and/or equity-focused programs
· Event planning and/or program logistics and operations management
· Experience with digital engagement for communities (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Community/Alumni Portals, etc.)
· Experience conducting program evaluations and analyzing and presenting programmatic data
· Strong Excel skills and/or Salesforce experience
