The Feminist Majority Foundation is seeking applicants for a full-time National Clinic Access Project Research Associate in its Los Angeles office.

Background:

The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF) is a national organization founded to develop bold, new strategies and programs to advance equality, non-violence and the empowerment of women and girls in all sectors of society. Our research and action programs focus on advancing legal, social and political equality, countering the backlash to advancement and recruiting and training young feminists to encourage future leadership for the feminist movement. FMF’s National Clinic Access Project (NCAP) works to protect embattled abortion providers and the communities they serve. NCAP monitors anti-abortion violence, harassment, and intimidation, acts as a liaison between clinics and federal, state, and local law enforcement, conducts periodic National Clinic Violence surveys, and coordinates pro-bono legal support for clinic staff and volunteers. NCAP also mobilizes and trains college students and community members to support clinics through clinic escort and legal observer programs, coalition building, communication strategies, and legislative initiatives. NCAP is dedicated to advancing reproductive justice while using an intersectional framework

Responsibilities and Duties:

FMF seeks a resourceful self-starter with a strong work ethic, who is flexible and knowledgeable and passionate about feminist issues and policy, who is enthusiastic about FMF’s mission, and who is deeply committed to reproductive justice for all. The Research Associate supports the work of NCAP, reports to the Director of NCAP, and works closely with other senior FMF staff. Applicants should enjoy a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a keen interest in research and data collection. This is a full-time exempt position in the FMF’s Los Angeles office. Some travel and occasional evening or weekend work is necessary.

  • Monitor anti-abortion extremist groups and individuals; prepare daily reports. Maintain centralized calendar of anti-abortion extremist events.
  • Provide research support for NCAP pro-bono legal teams.
  • Conduct periodic National Clinic Violence Surveys of abortion clinics in the US by mail and online, prepare quantitative analysis, summarize findings, and prepare final report for publication.
  • Contribute to ongoing threat assessment and identification of trends in anti-abortion harassment and violence.
  • Train and supervise NCAP research interns.
  • Engage with community volunteers, allies, and clinic staff to gather intelligence and to support abortion providers and patients.
  • Disseminate periodic clinic safety alerts.
  • Update NCAP intelligence and safety resources for clinics, volunteers, and law enforcement.
  • Advance other FMF campaigns to defend and promote reproductive freedom, voting, and civil rights; work in coalition to defeat anti-abortion measures.
  • Travel required

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or comparable educational experience required; Master’s Degree or security, cyber security, or statistics certificates helpful
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other social media platforms. Familiarity with statistical package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or quantitative analysis a plus.
  • Quantitative research experience preferred
  • 3+ years comparable experience
  • Excellent verbal, analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to strictly safeguard confidential information
  • Willingness to engage with wide range of individuals – from clinic directors to college students to community leaders to attorneys and policy makers
  • Strong critical thinker with attention to detail and curiosity
  • Self-motivated to learn new tools and technologies
  • Ability to persist, adapt, learn, and innovate in rapidly evolving political landscape
  • Demonstrated commitment to reproductive justice
  • Valid Driver’s License. When in the field, will be necessary to lease rental car and drive.
  • Ability to travel by air

Salary and Benefits:
