Job Classification: Entry-Level Police Officer
The City of Bowling Green is seeking to fill vacancies for Police Officer positions. These positions are open to candidates who meet one of the following criteria:
Education: Associate’s degree, or 96 quarter-hours or 64 semester-hours toward a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (proof required at the time of application)
Certification: Current Ohio Peace Officer Training Council Certification or current enrollment in an OPOTA Peace Officer Training program (proof required at the time of application)
Military Service: Two or more years of active duty military service within the last five years, with an honorable discharge (DD Form 214 required at the time of application)
Salary Information:
Starting Pay: $32.69 per hour ($67,995 annually)
Top Pay: $42.31 per hour after 4 years of service ($92,872 annually, including training incentives)
Additional Compensation:Shift differential: $0.50 per hour for afternoon and midnight shifts, plus $0.50 per hour for weekend shifts
Fitness incentive: Up to $1,200 annually
Uniform allowance: $1,000 per year
Officers hired with prior experience may be placed within the appropriate pay grade. Overtime and contract opportunities are available. Officers without OPOTA certification will attend the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy (expenses covered by the city), while earning the hourly wage listed above.

Job Requirements:
Age: Must be between 21 and 40 years old at the time of original appointment
Citizenship: Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Driver’s License: Valid Ohio Driver’s License required
Education/Experience: Must meet the criteria listed under “Job Classification”
Application Process:
National Testing Network (NTN):
All candidates must pass the law enforcement tests (reading and writing) offered by NTN. The video portion is required but not used for scoring. Candidates who previously tested with NTN within the past year must apply their scores to Bowling Green’s current posting. NTN scores must be valid on the application deadline.
Candidates must also complete the Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) and Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) through their NTN account.
Physical Ability Test:
Candidates who pass the NTN exams and submit a completed City application will be scheduled for a physical ability test, which follows the standards outlined by the Ohio Attorney General.
City Employment Application:
All candidates must complete and submit a City of Bowling Green employment application by the specified deadline.
Veteran’s Credit:
Honorably discharged veterans may receive an additional 10% credit on their passing test score by submitting a DD 214 form at the time of application.
Hiring Process:
Candidates who pass the NTN written exam, the physical ability test, and complete the employment application will be considered for the eligibility list. The top five candidates will be certified for vacancies by the City’s Civil Service Commission.
