Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to four regular full-time Firefighters to join our team in the Protective Services – Fire Division. Additional top-qualified candidates may be placed on an eligibility list, which will be maintained for a period of 12 months. Please note that placement on the eligibility list does not guarantee employment.

Firefighters in Langley work as part of a team with career and paid-call firefighters, alongside management, to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Fire Department. Responsibilities include firefighting, maintenance, education, training, and inspection duties, all while adhering to municipal policies, Department Operational Guidelines, and recognized safety practices. Firefighters must be capable of making decisions and working with limited supervision until a fire officer arrives, and must be prepared for prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions. Continued education and skill advancement through courses and regular training sessions are expected.

Required Qualifications
Good physical condition, and physically and psychologically suitable for the position. Candidates must pass a health and medical evaluation by a qualified third-party medical professional approved by the Township. The cost for screening will be the responsibility of the candidate. Only candidates medically suitable for all firefighting duties will be considered (refer to NFPA 1582 Chapter 6 for Medical Suitability).
Must be 19 years of age or older by the close date.
No conviction for a criminal or summary offense related to the job of a firefighter.
Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
Fluency in English (written and verbal).
Must meet the residency requirement within the boundaries of West Vancouver to the west, Metro Vancouver municipalities to the north, the U.S. border to the south, and Mission and Chilliwack to the east.
This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). Successful candidates will be required to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC) as a condition of employment.

Desirable Training and Experience
Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) completed within the last 6 months of the competition closing date.
Completion of fire service-related courses (e.g., auto extrication, rope rescue, confined space, hazardous material, or incident command).
Participation in the delivery of Public Fire and Life Safety Education Programs.
Demonstrated knowledge of various applicable codes and standards.
Work/Life skills related to firefighting.

Required Licenses/Certificates/Qualifications
Diploma, Certificate, or Transcripts demonstrating a minimum Grade 12 graduation, GED completion, or equivalent. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Equivalencies can include a two-year diploma, an undergraduate or applied degree, or a journeyman certificate of a Red Seal Trade Certificate.
Completion of NFPA 1001 Level II certification with appropriate IFSAC/ProBoard Seals.
Completion of NFPA 472 Operations with appropriate IFSAC/ProBoard Seals.
Current recognized first aid certificate pertinent to a firefighter and CPR Level C (e.g., First Responder Level III with AED and spinal endorsement; EMA FR, EMR, paramedic license, or equivalent).
Valid BC Class 3 or Class 1 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement (restriction 15) or equivalent for vehicles with more than 2 axles (automatic transmission is accepted). A current Personal Driving Record (5-year history) obtained within 30 days of the competition closing date is required. The driving record will be considered in the selection process.
