Position Title: Firefighter-Medic
Reporting Structure: Lieutenant
FLSA Designation: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Compensation: $52,383.24 annually (eligible for a 5% increase at six months upon Paramedic clearance and a 10% increase after one year of employment)
Schedule: 24 hours on / 48 hours off

Summary:
The Ocean Reef Community Association (ORCA) in North Key Largo, FL, has an available position for a Firefighter-Medic in the Fire-Rescue Division. The selected candidate must be ready to respond to fire emergencies, perform suppression techniques, and provide rescue and emergency medical services. This role demands a responsible individual capable of maintaining the highest level of professionalism to ensure the safety of lives and property within the Ocean Reef Community and nearby response areas.

Specific Duties (Including but not limited to):
Perform fire prevention and suppression activities in line with policies and procedures as directed by supervisors and the chain of command.
Conduct vehicle extrication and other rescue operations as directed.
Administer patient care in emergencies following department protocols.
Assist with cleaning and maintaining the fire station and EMS equipment.
Participate in required training.
Comply with ORCA policies, standard operating procedures, and directives from Public Safety management.
Submit accurate and complete written reports as required.
Occasionally assist full-time security staff with security and patrol duties.
Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, and speak English, with strong communication skills (written and oral).
Ability to react quickly and professionally with the public.
Ability to work as part of a team in a 24-hour shift operation.
Experience using fire apparatus, patrol vehicles, radios, sirens, emergency lights, and other firefighting and rescue equipment.
Required to handle various tools and equipment, including hoses, axes, generators, and pumps.
Must complete the department’s Ocean Reef Firefighter Readiness Drill and be able to wear and use protective fire equipment.
Specific vision abilities, including close vision and the ability to adjust focus, are necessary.
Must occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:
Minimum Required:

Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Florida Firefighter II Certification.
Florida Paramedic Certification and/or National Registry Paramedic Certification.
Class D Security License or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
Preferred (not required):

Associate Degree in Applied Science in Paramedic Medicine or a related field from an accredited college or university.
At least one year of experience as a certified Paramedic and Firefighter.
A combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the Firefighter-Medic position will be considered.
