***ATTENTION CURRENT POST ACADEMY STUDENTS***

Students actively enrolled in and/or attending a Colorado POST academy may be eligible for in-state tuition reimbursement up to $10,000 upon successful completion of the academy and POST certification.

Academy Reimbursement Requirements:

Candidate must be actively enrolled and/or attending a Colorado POST academy.
Upon successful completion of all pre-employment screenings, the candidate will sign a Training Expense Reimbursement Agreement stipulating that they will serve as Officers with the Greeley Police Department for a minimum of two years after successful completion of the FTO program. Note: If the candidate separates employment prior to two years, they may be required to reimburse some or all of the in-state academy tuition costs.
Salary Range: $25.53 – $34.47

Hiring Rate: $30.05

$30.05 per hour through the academy.
After completing a 4-month academy and passing the POST test, Cadets will be promoted to Step A:
Two thousand twenty-five step increase amounts are currently under negotiation and will be updated once the information is finalized.
Recruitment Process:

The dates below are tentative and subject to change

  • 06/12/2024- 07/31/2024: Application Window OpenApplications screened and Written Test invitations sent out – if you are selected to move forward after application screening, you will be invited via email to the written test. Testing consists of video, writing, and reading comprehension. For more information, visit National Testing Network. Practice tests are available HERE.The written test must be completed and submitted via NTN to GPD by 07/31/2024. If you pass the written test, you will be invited via email to the EFT.
  • 07/08/2024 and 08/05/2024: Essential Functions TestThe EFT is a series of obstacles and physical maneuvers that represent the essential physical functions potentially required of police officers – click HERE to view a demonstration.
  • 08/14/2024 – 08/16/2024: Oral Board interviews – If you pass the EFT, you will be invited to interview.
  • 08/20/2024 – 10/04/2024: Background Investigations – If you are selected to move forward from interviews, you will move into the background investigation phase of the process.
  • 10/07/2024 -10/11/2024: Command Staff interview invitations sent out. If you are selected to proceed from the background investigation process, you will be invited to interview with the Command Staff.
  • Week of 10/01/2024: Conditional Job Offer– If you are selected to move forward from Command Staff interviews, you will be given a conditional job offer.
  • 10/14/2024 – 11/30/2024: Pre-employment Screenings – After accepting the conditional job offer, you will participate in a polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, and drug test. You will be given a final job offer if you pass all pre-employment screenings.
  • Hire Date: 12/19/2024 or 12/26/2024 Tentative
  • Academy Start Date: January 2025
  • Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 21 years of age.
  • The cadet will transition to a Police Officer trainee position upon graduation from the law enforcement academy.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Legally able to work in the United States.
  • Be in good physical condition.
  • Have a vision that is correctable to 20/20.
  • No felony convictions or convictions involving moral turpitude.
  • No illegal drug usage or related activities within the previous five years.
  • No use of marijuana within the last year.
  • No arrest for DUI, DWAI, or DUID within the last five years.
  • Spanish/English bilingual skills desired but not required – preference points offered for Spanish fluency.
  • Cadet Essential Functions:

Attend POST academy full time.
Successfully completed and passed all POST and Academy requirements.
Police Officer Essential Functions:

Patrols are assigned to the area on foot, by motorcycle, in a patrol car, or by bicycle to enforce laws, prevent and discover crimes, investigate crimes, maintain order, answer calls, and assist in non-criminal matters.

Answers radio-dispatched or citizens’ requests for police services at the scene of accidents, domestic disputes, law violations, and altercations.

Familiarizes self with the beat and with persons living in the area.

Investigates illegal or suspicious activities, persons, and establishments; Locates, searches, detains, and arrests law violators, following recognized police procedures.

Interviews and questions victims, witnesses, and suspects; Gathers and preserves evidence.

Performs first aid and provides assistance to accidents and other victims;

Participates in problem-solving and community-oriented policing projects;

Directs and controls traffic; investigates traffic accidents.

Issues written citations for traffic and other violations.

Inspects public establishments requiring licenses to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.

Operates police communication and computer equipment to obtain, disseminate, and report information.

Attends community meetings to discuss crime prevention activities and crime problems; Writes detailed incidents, investigations, and other reports.

Provides credible testimony in court.

Mediates civil disputes and other non-criminal disagreements.

Attempts to de-escalate and obtain appropriate services for mentally ill and emotionally disturbed persons.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel equipment and/or evidence, and in performing required tasks of the position, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to run and climb over obstacles.

Specifically, this position requires:

Vision sufficient to perform functions such as apprehend suspects, obtain information at disturbances, service, and accident calls, and to read and review written communications; Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate clearly and distinctly face-to-face as well as over the radio and telephone in normal and adverse conditions.

Arm and hand steadiness and manual dexterity are sufficient to use weapons to prevent injury or protect oneself and others.

Stamina and tolerance are sufficient to remain physically and mentally alert for short bursts of extremely intense physical and/or mental activity separated by periods of physical and/or mental inactivity.
