Salary: $90,000-$120,000 commensurate with experience

 

Job Summary:

Transportation Energy Partners (TEP) seeks an energetic and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its Executive Director. This position is ideal for someone excited about sustainability and clean energy, and motivated to build and strengthen this growing non-profit organization.  TEP is open to an individual or a firm taking on the responsibilities of Executive Director.

Based in Washington, DC, TEP is a membership-based national non-profit organization that represents the country’s 75 Clean Cities Coalitions that are part of the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities Program. TEP and its members work to:  (1) help public and private sector fleets transition to clean fuels and vehicles; (2) educate local elected leaders and other opinion leaders about the benefits of clean fuels and advanced vehicle technology; and (3) advocate for federal policies and funding that promote the use of clean fuels and vehicles.

Reporting to TEP’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have both internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from: strategic planning; managing team members, projects and events; fundraising; building partnerships with allied organizations; communications, public speaking; and advocacy.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to implement TEP’s strategic plan.
  • Oversee and provide management/administrative services for the organization, including the management of outside contractors which provide direct services to TEP,
  • Support monthly board calls with volunteer board and additional calls with board sub-committees
  • Serve as the external face of the organization and network with government, industry and non-profit clean transportation leaders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Congressional and Administration leaders and educate them about the benefits of clean fuels and vehicles and programs
  • Track federal policies and funding and advocate for federal policies and funding to promote and encourage the use of clean fuels and vehicles.
  • Develop and implement TEP’s communications strategy via the website, social media, and print and electronic media.
  • Lead and oversee TEP’s existing federal grant-funded projects.
  • Oversee and lead TEP’s annual Energy Independence Summit, which convenes clean transportation industry, and government leaders in Washington, DC.
  • Oversee Congressional visits during TEP’s annual Energy Independence Summit.
  • Develop and maintain an actionable plan for fundraising and managing monthly cashflow.
  • Manage grants and sponsorships from government, industry, and private foundations.

Qualifications include:

  • 5-7 years of experience in leadership positions, as Executive Director or in other managerial positions.
  • Experience in strategic planning, project management, communications, and/or issue advocacy.
  • Excellent people skills including experience building a vision and coordinating and leading teams to implement the vision.
  • Good knowledge of and experience with the Congressional policy making process including established Congressional relationships,
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people – junior and senior, for-profit and nonprofit, and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience raising funds from business, government and foundations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest and/or experience in sustainability and clean energy issues.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor.
  • Outstanding organization and leadership abilities

Compensation: 

The salary for this position is $80,000-$120,000, commensurate with experience. Transportation Energy Partners also offers a generous benefits package.
