Position Title: Police Officer – Entry Level
Salary Range: $86,666 – $122,905 annually
Department Size: 71 sworn officers; 110 total members, including sworn and civilian personnel

Minimum Requirements
Age: Minimum 20 years old (must be 21 by police academy graduation); under 35 at application deadline (exceptions apply for military veterans)
Citizenship: U.S. citizen or naturalized
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Driver’s License: Valid license required
Additional Qualifications (one of the following):College coursework toward 60 credit hours (must complete by hire date)
At least two years of U.S. military service
ILETSB Basic Correctional Officer Training certification
Experience as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer (must be eligible for Illinois certification)
Selection Process
Each phase is pass/fail, with progression required to advance:
Written Examination: Complete FrontLine National Exam via National Testing Network (cost borne by candidate; hardship fee waivers available)
Application Submission: Complete Gurnee Police Officer Application and submit required documents by the specified deadline
Oral Interviews: Conducted with the Civil Service Commission and Gurnee Police Department Supervisory Staff
Physical Test: Illinois Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER test) upon department request
Post-Offer Examinations/Screenings
Upon receiving a conditional offer, candidates must pass the following:
Verification of qualifications and college credit (if applicable)
Polygraph examination
Psychological evaluation
Comprehensive background investigation
Medical, vision exams, and drug screening
Completion of the required testing and application does not guarantee eligibility for the next phase. Candidates may be disqualified for reasons such as missed deadlines, failure to meet minimum qualifications, incomplete documentation, or other factors affecting Police Officer eligibility.
