SUMMARY
The independent expenditure research director develops and manages all of the research and fact-checking needs of the EMILYs List independent expenditure for the election cycle and ensuring that the independent expenditure operates at the highest levels of accuracy at all times.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop a research work plan for the cycle;
  • Work with progressive allies and research consultants to manage research for EMILYs List endorsed candidates and their opponents;
  • Conduct original research to prepare polling memos on EMILYs List candidates and their opponents;
  • Track all public communications from candidates, opponents and third party groups;
  • Manage the fact-check process for all IE communications, including mail, TV, radio, and digital ads, phone/text scripts, press releases and fundraising memos;
  • Be the point person for keeping the departmental calendar up to date: filing deadlines, finance reporting deadlines, debate schedules, primary election dates, etc.
  • Work with legal team and manage process to approve all independent expenditure communications, ensuring our products are error-free and on time;
  • Hire and manage researchers and interns;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum four years of leadership in a research capacity at a political organization or campaign. This is not an entry level position;
  • The ideal candidate will have campaign research experience and staff management experience, including a minimum of one cycle as a statewide research director or significant experience at a Democratic committee, PAC, or progressive organization;
  • Ability to utilize federal and state government databases and multiple other data sources;
  • Excellent organizational skills and an obsession with accuracy and details are a must;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication experience, including persuasive writing and confident rapid response;
  • Understanding of independent expenditure product, process, and partners;
  • Proactive self-starter with a hunger to expand the EMILYs List community, win races, and build a sustainable, progressive America.

The salary for this position is $112,000 – $130,000 and comes with a comprehensive benefits package.
