Position Title: Basic Entry Police Officer

The City of Roseburg is seeking candidates for the role of Basic Entry Police Officer. Candidates must complete the National Testing Network (NTN) Frontline National Exam, the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT), and submit a City application to be considered.

Salary: $5,689 per month

Job Responsibilities:

Patrol Duties: Enforce traffic and criminal laws, respond to calls, investigate accidents, and take action on citizen complaints.
Investigations: Initiate investigations, gather evidence, make arrests, issue citations, and prepare comprehensive reports.
Community Interaction: Represent the department in public engagements, educational programs, and respond to inquiries.
Court Duties: Serve as a witness, issue writs, and serve subpoenas.
Public Assistance: Aid the public with directions, inquiries, roadside assistance, and house checks.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to perform tasks as outlined by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
Understanding of applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
Strong physical condition and agility to handle the duties of the position.
Ability to make clear decisions under pressure and interact courteously with the public and other agencies.
Minimum Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or GED.
Age: At least 21 years old.
Citizenship: U.S. citizen within 18 months of employment.
Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license at the time of hire; Oregon license within 30 days for residents.
Certifications: DPSST Basic Certificate within 18 months of appointment; no disqualifying domestic violence offenses.
Physical Condition: Meet Oregon DPSST standards for vision, physical fitness, and character as verified by a background check.
Work Conditions:

Environment: Exposure to diverse conditions, including hostile environments, inclement weather, traffic hazards, and public interactions.
Mobility: Requires physical endurance, mobility, and agility to restrain individuals, operate law enforcement equipment, and handle various physical tasks.
Vision: Vision requirements in line with state police standards, including depth perception and color vision.
32-Hour Workweek Pilot Program:
The Patrol Division has implemented a 32-hour workweek (4-day/8-hour schedule), with compensation for a 40-hour workweek, provided essential duties are completed.
