ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: 6 months
INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: The Population Council’s Girl Innovation, Research, & Learning Center (GIRL Center) is a global research and thought leadership hub that generates, synthesizes, and translates evidence on adolescent girls. The GIRL Center works to ensure that policies and programs that aim to improve the health and well-being of adolescent girls are based on rigorous research and high-quality evidence. The Research Assistant Intern will be responsible for providing research and logistical support to the EGER project. The Evidence for Gender and Education Resource (EGER) is the first freely available resource to help the global gender and education community make informed decisions about their programming, investments, and policy and research priorities.
Ideal candidates can work up to 6 months for 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide support with data collection, entry, and management. This includes collecting organizational and program data, providing quality assurance during data collection, entering all data with accuracy, and conducting data validation approaches.
2. Provide support on research projects, including conducting literature reviews, creating bibliographies, and formatting tables.
3. Draft sections of and copy-edit reports, briefs, presentations, and communications materials for EGER and other Population Council projects, as needed.
4. Other duties to support the overall development and management of the GIRL Center, as assigned.
Qualifications:
We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience and strong candidates may not have every qualification listed here. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse and/or nontraditional backgrounds who bring passion, skills, and experience in many or most of these areas.
1. Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s Degree Program with at least 1 year of work experience in international development or research (internships are considered relevant work experience).
2. Excellent writing and communication skills, for both research and policy audiences.
3. Demonstrated ability to work independently and remain accountable in a remote-work environment, manage time efficiently, prioritize, and multi-task.
4. Ability to read and synthesize published articles and grey literature.
5. Excellent organizational skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
6. Excellent English language skills (oral and written).
7. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
8. Experience with data collection and data management preferred.
Hourly rate between $18-22 per hour, depending on knowledge, skills and experience
