WHO WE ARE
Movement Alliance Project (formerly Media Mobilizing Project) has been a part of Philadelphia’s movement ecosystem since 2005. Over recent years, Movement Alliance Project (MAP) has developed into a hub for local movement building for justice, dignity, and power.

We’re conveners, facilitators, administrative professionals and former campaigners who enjoy working together. We strive to build the strength of the local movement ecosystem so that social movements can transform material conditions for Black, brown, poor, and working people to reflect the care, well being, and dignity all people deserve.

 

WHAT WE DO
Movement Alliance Project works to build a healthy movement ecosystem where organizations succeed in making transformational social change. We collaborate with organizations and alliances to develop strategy, collectivize administrative capacity, and convene groups to deepen the interconnection and solidarity within and across sectors of organizing. We provide fiscal sponsorship to an array of projects working towards social justice. Core to our organizational practice is pairing study, evaluation, and reflection with action, collaboration, and experimentation.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE
Movement Alliance Project is in growth mode, and we view that as an opportunity to be intentional about the kind of organization we want to be as we continue to grow. To help us grow in accordance with our values and practices, we are hiring a Director of Resource Mobilization! MAP understands operations as a key part of our work. At MAP, finance, fundraising, HR, IT & operations aren’t afterthoughts; they’re central components of our work. We strive to create administrative policies, practices and procedures that strengthen our fight for social justice.

As the leader of MAP’s emerging Resource Mobilization program, the Director of Resource Mobilization seeks increase MAP’s capacities and connections to raise resources in ways that strengthen the fundraising for our programs, sponsored projects and collaborators. The Director of Resource Mobilization will steward a pipeline of foundation funding for MAP, identify and connect sponsored projects to prospective funders, engage major donors to support our programs and projects, and work to build the fundraising capacity of MAP sponsored projects and collaborators through training, knowledge sharing, and one-on-one support. The Director of Resource Mobilization will be accountable and take full charge of developing the Resource Mobilization program, deciding on at least 1 additional staff member hire for the program in the coming 12 months, and collaborating deeply with members of the Operations & Finance team and Movement Collaborations team.

REQUIRED SKILLS FOR THIS ROLE

  • 7 or more years of relevant experience in foundation and grassroots fundraising, including fundraising training and planning assistance for grassroots organizers and organizations
  • Excellent writing abilities and oral communications skills, with a comfort for public speaking a strong plus
  • Excellent people skills, from donor relation management to collaborating with organizers and activists from various backgrounds
  • Prior experience in supervising staff

WE HOPE YOU BRING ONE OR MORE OF THESE BONUS SKILLS

  • Experience in community organizing; community roots in Philadelphia
  • Experience in development as a fiscal sponsor or across multiple entities
  • Experience with any or all of the following tools: Google Workspace, Asana, Miro, relational databases
  • Experience working in a virtual environment, strongly preferred

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Steward foundation pipeline, including prospecting, proposal development, review and reporting
  • Develop and maintain a major donor program for soliciting financial gifts to support MAP and our sponsored projects
  • Oversee internal grants management working with Finance Systems and Reporting Manager
  • Develop and maintain an analysis of local philanthropy and relevant national philanthropy and foster strong relationships with leaders in local and relevant national philanthropy
  • Identify and prospect development opportunities for and with collaborators and sponsored projects
  • Manage MAP’s contact database for donor tracking and engagement, including identifying if MAP will need to develop a new contact database system to replace our current civiCRM instance
  • Creating metrics and processes for tracking the impact of MAP’s work and the work of our projects and collaborators to support strategic decision making and raising resources
  • Lead drafting and publishing general organizational communications and updates such as email newsletters, an annual report, and letters to donors and supports

Movement Alliance Project is a hybrid workplace rooted in Philadelphia. Employee chooses if they want to work in person, hybrid or 90% remote with ability and willingness to attend in-person events in Philadelphia multiple times a year when safe to gather. As a community-based organization, preference will be given to candidates in Philadelphia and its surrounding counties.

 

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
Salary: $85-90K, pending experience + benefits. Exempt, full time, 35 hours per week

To discourage practices of negotiating that have historically reinforced larger systems of inequality, starting salary offers will be determined by Movement Alliance Projected based on 1) the employee’s years of experience in positions of similar responsibility; and 2) any technical skill sets directly relevant to the position.

Benefits: 90% covered medical insurance, 401K plan, one-time home office stipend, flexible schedule outside of core working hours.

Holidays and Paid Time Off: 25 vacation days, 8 holidays plus 2 paid office closures annually (week of July 4 and December 24-January 1), plus sick, bereavement, and parental leaves.
