Website SallyLHudson Sally for Virginia

Progressive Delegate Sally Hudson seeks Field Organizers to join her campaign for Virginia’s newly-drawn 11th Senate District. Field Organizer is a full-time, in-person role based in the Charlottesville metro area, a progressive region in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

Core Duties

The Field Organizers will:

  • recruit, train, and manage volunteers to participate in direct voter contact
  • lead volunteer events, including canvasses, phone banks, trainings, and meet-and-greets
  • build strong relationships with volunteers and coach them in building their own organizing skills, including leading volunteer events
  • knock on doors to persuade voters and turn out supporters
  • manage data to track all the above

Required Qualifications

Strong candidates for the position will:

  • be enthusiastic about meeting new people, building relationships, and empowering volunteers
  • have experience coordinating groups to accomplish shared goals
  • communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and in writing
  • be agile in adapting to the campaign’s needs and technologies as they develop
  • be exceptionally organized and detail-oriented, including under tight deadlines
  • be willing and able to work long hours, including nights and weekends
  • have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • be located in the Charlottesville area or willing to relocate

Bonus Qualifications

  • basic graphic design skills
  • Prior paid or volunteer organizing experience is a plus but not necessary.
  • Applicants with experience working in (a) Virginia, (b) competitive primaries, or (c) state and local races will be especially welcome. A down-ballot primary in a tight-knit community can be a very different race than a frontline Congressional general election.

Location and Schedule

Start date is flexible. We aim to have new hires in Charlottesville full-time in February 2023.

The race has a competitive primary on June 20, 2023. We welcome applicants who may wish to work on the primary campaign before pursuing other opportunities during the general election cycle.

Compensation

Starting salary range is $3500 – $4000 per month.

Supporter housing is available.

This position will be eligible for a $300 monthly reimbursement for health insurance expenses, if desired.
