ABOUT SIHA NETWORK

Women activists from Somaliland, Ethiopia, Sudan, and South Sudan established SIHA in the mid-1990s to eradicate the systemic violence against women and girls in the region. Today we continue to work as an inclusive and diverse feminist and women’s movement network that holds a unique position working with grassroots civil society in politically volatile contexts. SIHA works in various cultural, political, and geographical environments in Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, Somaliland, Sudan, and South Sudan.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is full-time and requires regular presence at the SIHA regional office in Kampala with frequent travel across the Greater Horn of Africa region, and possibly other locations.

Working in close collaboration and under the supervision of the Regional Director, the SIHA Regional Programme Manager position is part of the SIHA management unit and decision-making process. The Regional Programme Manager will be responsible for delivering and overseeing SIHA’s strategy and integrating SIHA’s vision and mission into the overall Network operation.

The programme manager is responsible for the overall integrity and coherence of the SIHA operational programme. She/he will develop and maintain the SIHA programme by supporting each project and working and leading an effective programme coordination unit comprised of SIHA country coordinators, team leaders, and SIHA monitoring and evaluation and learning unit.

The SIHA Regional Programme Manager must possess knowledge in key management areas, including programme unit capacity assessment in collaboration with SIHA Human Resource, setting and implementing strategies, budgeting, and fundraising. She/he must have a solid understanding of the value of planning strategically and monitoring and evaluating outcomes with an eye to concrete objectives.

The Programme Manager must have experience working in or within the Greater Horn of Africa or have strong knowledge of the region backed by the experience of engaging and working in conflict and post-conflict areas. The Regional Programme Manager must have research and political analysis skills and a good understanding of regional and international government bodies and mechanisms.

This particular position requires accountability and commitment to women’s human rights and feminist principles, including power sharing, taking positions against any forms of discrimination, being intentional about inclusivity and diversity, understanding risk and risk mitigation, and commitment to ending all forms of violence against women and girls

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Postgraduate Degree in social studies/humanities or any relevant field combined with at least eight years of direct full-time work experience in the field of civil society and or /NGOs with increasing levels of responsibility. Or ten years or more of work experience in civil society and feminist organization management.
Good understanding of post-war transitional contexts and grassroots organizations
Proven experience in programme management, including budget management, budget tracking, and donor reporting, is essential for this position
Proven skills in team coordination, working with remote teams and utilizing a collaborative approach
Experience and understanding of fundraising, proposal writing, and structuring is considered an asset
Excellent writing skills in English are required; knowledge of other regional languages will be considered an asset
Ability to use information technologies as one of the tools for programme management and monitoring is essential for this post.
