Canvassers Needed! This is Not a Fundraising Position.

November is right around the corner, and it’s more important than ever to elect state officials that will prioritize and protect the human and civil rights of Virginians. Every state legislative seat and many important local races are up for grabs and every vote counts more than ever as part of the year-round fight to build power in working-class communities of color across the Commonwealth. Join us in our effort to urge Virginians to vote this fall.

We are urgently hiring campaign staff to canvass door-to-door on behalf of New Virginia Majority  to talk to Virginians about issues and candidates on the ballot on November 7th. New Virginia Majority (NVM) is Virginia’s leading civic engagement organization that works to build power in working-class communities of color across the Commonwealth.

Canvassers are paid hourly to canvass targeted voters door-to-door in Loudoun County. Together, we can energize and empower working class communities of color, women, youth, the LGBTQ+ community in Virginia to vote this November.

We are hiring starting October 4th. All positions run through November 7th with possibilities for continued work afterwards. Shifts run between 12:00 PM – 6:30 PM with the possibility to work part-time or full-time.

Get paid well! Canvass positions start at $20/hour base pay. Leadership positions earn up to $22/hour. In addition, we offer overtime pay, paid training, sick pay, and bonuses for friend referrals.

Locations: Loudoun County: Sterling, Leesburg VA. Strong preference for in-state candidates, short-term travel may be required.

Canvasser Responsibilities ($20/hr):

Engage with the public in a friendly and professional manner

Deliver a compelling campaign message, and collect complete survey answers from voters

Participate in staff training to improve outreach skills

Strictly follow the campaign’s safety protocols, including the use of PPE and compliance with daily health and safety guidelines

Team Leader Responsibilities ($22/hr):

The Canvasser Responsibilities plus:

Manage a small group of canvassers out in the field by checking in with them periodically throughout the day and debriefing with them at the end of the day

Ensure each canvasser has all of the materials they need to be safe and successful

Assist directors with canvasser training and administrative work

The ideal candidate:

Passionate about social change and fostering democracy

Strong communication skills; you should enjoy working with other people and be willing and excited to speak with everyone

Hard worker who will stay motivated to engage as many people as possible

Open to new challenges and are interested in building their campaign skills

Culturally competent and able to respectfully engage with teammates and the community

Prior voter registration, signature gathering, and/or door-to-door canvassing experience is a plus but not required.
