Position Summary
On-call advocates provide crisis intervention, emergency accompaniment, advocacy, case management, and information and referral to survivors of sexual harassment, abuse, and assault in Adams County. On-call advocates provide support to survivors over the phone and at designated locations, such as Wellspan Gettysburg Hospital and local police departments in Adams County.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties in addition to the ones listed below may be assigned.

  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Provide hotline coverage and in-person advocacy/accompaniment to hospitals and police departments as necessary.
  • Conduct follow up activities after initial contact with survivors, as appropriate.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and report to Community Organizer at designated times following each shift.
  • Have a working knowledge of the organization’s language access plan, and utilize interpretation and translation services as appropriate.

 

Travel Requirements
This position requires in-state travel.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma required. Experience providing supportive services to survivors of sexual harassment, abuse, and assault preferred.

Requirements

  • Availability to work as required to fulfill on-call responsibilities. There are designated on-call shifts for weekday daytimes, weekday evenings/overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrated commitment to client-centered and trauma-informed service provision.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and ability to collaboratively work with individuals and groups from diverse populations and organizations. Ability to work with ease with every member of the community, including people of all ages, races, creeds, gender identities, ethnicities, colors, national origins, marital statuses, sexual orientations, physical or mental abilities, cultures, language abilities, classes, economic statuses, education-levels, and HIV statuses.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative and professional demeanor with professionals from other disciplines. Must be able to foster positive working relationships.
  • Must have proficiency with the technology necessary for the functions of the position.
  • Accept and abide by the mission and core values of PCAR.
  • Must be willing to complete a Pennsylvania sexual assault counselor training within first month of employment, if not already completed in the past two years. Act 31 (mandated reporter training) also required. Six hours of annual professional development also required.
  • Must have reliable access to phone.
  • Availability to travel throughout Adams County. Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, insurance, and reliable vehicle.
  • Successful completion of Act 34 (criminal background), Act 33 (child abuse history), and FBI clearances.
