The Asian American Federation (AAF), founded in 1989, is a leading advocate for policies and services benefiting 1.5 million Asian Americans in New York City. The Associate Director of Advocacy & Policy, reporting to the Deputy Director of Research & Policy, will drive AAF’s advocacy agenda, engage in policy development, and build partnerships. Responsibilities include leading policy agenda development, external relations as a spokesperson, member engagement through surveys and convenings, team management, and budget oversight. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree, 5-7 years of relevant experience, policy advocacy expertise, management experience, and a commitment to AAF’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Policy Expertise: Lead annual policy agenda development, collaborate on advocacy strategies, monitor policy actions, and provide insights for advocacy efforts.
External Relations: Serve as a policy spokesperson, cultivate programmatic partnerships, and coordinate advocacy actions to raise public awareness.
Member Engagement: Engage members through surveys, regular convenings, and interface with internal working groups to gather feedback on policy priorities.
Team Management: Collaborate on the Advocacy & Policy team’s budget, ensuring resource adequacy, and manage a team responsible for advocacy and policy-related initiatives.
Candidate Profile:
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (master’s desirable), 5-7 years of relevant experience, including 3-4 years of policy development and legislative advocacy. Management experience strongly preferred.
Experience: Substantial experience in city and state government, policy advocacy, community organizing, and/or community engagement.
Skills: Critical thinking, strategic independence, relationship-building, excellent written and oral communication, and flexibility to work in a dynamic environment.
Language: Proficiency in an Asian language is a plus.
Commitment: Demonstrated commitment to Asian American communities and AAF’s mission.

Compensation & Benefits:
Location: New York City, with a hybrid work environment.
Salary Range: $90,000 – $95,000.
