Job Details:

GRU’s Water/Wastewater Engineering Department is looking for an Engineering Intern. The ideal intern will have a background in Engineering, AutoCAD, or Geospatial Data Science and have a flexibility and willingness to tackle any assignment, with a combination of both office and field work.

In addition to our competitive pay and great work environment, our Internship Program offers many benefits such as introducing students to Water/Wastewater utility service via practical work experience with a flexible schedule, making available a network of professionals in each student’s chosen career field and allowing students to apply their academic knowledge in the “real world.” Our interns have the opportunity to work alongside our engineering staff in Civil, Environmental, AutoCAD, GIS and Mechanical backgrounds of study.

 

To be considered for this paid internship, candidate must meet the following requirements:

•A student currently working towards an A.A. or bachelor’s degree in either Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering and possessing at least a 2.5 GPA.

•Student must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Preferably 20 hours a week in (4-8 hour) blocks of time.

•This is a summer internship opportunity. GRU is looking for a student interested in working over the summer 2024 season only until fall semester begins.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

•Previous experience as an intern or in a co-op program in the Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering field.

•Water/wastewater/reclaimed water facility infrastructure knowledge

•AutoCAD software experience

•Bluebeam software experience

•GIS software (Esri ArcGIS desired) experience

•Microsoft Office experience, specifically Excel expertise

 

Summary of the roles and responsibilities of an Engineering Intern:

•Assist staff with engineering based technical projects

•Assist staff with new development efforts consisting of hydraulic water modeling, hydrant fire flows and design drawing review/scanning

•Assist staff with civil and/or environmental design projects such as treatment plant infrastructure design, lift station design, treatment wetlands and linear infrastructure improvement projects

•Assist staff with field data collection efforts such as wetland sampling, water quality sampling and GIS mapping

•Assist staff with data analysis efforts involving extensive use of GIS data and Excel data

•Assist staff with local engineering outreach and organization efforts such as AWWA and ASCE
