Campaign Associate – Methane Accountability

Climate Nexus is seeking a strong campaigner as our next Campaign Associate – Methane Accountability for the Campaigns & Strategies team to hold the oil and gas industry accountable for meeting methane emissions reduction pledges.

This position is currently funded for two years, although we will seek additional funding to extend the work and role. Should the current funding stream end, the individual might be asked to shift to another funded role.

Our team leads campaigns to change public perception and accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. We specialize in media outreach and messaging, government affairs and politics, research and polling, coalition management, and opposition strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with developing and implementing a winning campaign strategy, by working with colleagues, campaign partners, and allies in the United States, to hold the oil and gas industry and the government accountable for reducing methane emissions.
  • Coordinate with internal Climate Nexus teams and outside partners and coalitions to move the campaign forward. This may include joint strategy meetings, actions, other events, relationship building, etc.
  • Assist in creating and executing communications and messaging strategies.
  • Translate research and data into compelling communications products to influence public opinion, policy debates, and media coverage.
  • Assist in coordination with partner organizations undertaking additional key components of this portfolio, including at the state and regional levels, and coordinate across Climate Nexus teams.
  • Assist with tracking and evaluating success of workstream goals.
  • Facilitate workstream information exchange with colleagues during regular meetings.

Required:

  • Excellent community organizing skills, strategizing, and/or execution of organizing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and climate justice.
  • Demonstrated interest in, or commitment to, working cross-culturally, and demonstrated interest in, or commitment to, advancing racial justice and equity, including ensuring equity is central to team strategy and daily communications work.
  • Experience working on advocacy campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with demonstrated focus on research, policy analysis, outreach, and targeted communications.
  • Creative, imaginative, and strategic thinker.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous issues.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the federal and/or state legislative and regulatory environments.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Location: Our staff is fully remote. Occasional travel will be required for team, partner, or movement events.

Access/Hours:

  • This position will require you to work at a computer for multiple hours at a time – Climate Nexus will provide the computer.
  • We value work/life balance. Due to the nature of news, however, this role will sometimes require work outside traditional hours.

Salary range: $55,000-65,000, commensurate with experience.
