About Communities Resist:

Communities Resist, founded in June 2019, is a growing organizing and legal services team combating displacement, structural injustice, and social disenfranchisement in NYC. Through innovative legal strategies, the organization partners with communities to address issues such as predatory landlords, evictions, tenant co-op support, and neighborhood displacement. Since its inception, Communities Resist has grown to a $4.3M organization with 24 full-time staff members, serving over 4,000 households in NYC. Positioned for exponential growth, the organization aims to expand programs and services across the city.

The Opportunity:

Communities Resist is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. The Executive Director will collaborate with the Board and staff to create a sustainable strategic plan, oversee programmatic excellence, and diversify funding sources. Responsibilities include leadership and management, board collaboration, financial oversight, fundraising, communications, and strategic planning for city-wide expansion.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A commitment to Communities Resist’s mission and model.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience, with nonprofit leadership experience preferred.
  • J.D., MBA, or master’s degree in a related field.
  • Track record of leading and scaling performance-based organizations.
  • Strong fiscal management, budgeting skills, and understanding of social justice housing issues.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • Excellence in organizational management and board collaboration.
  • Fund development experience, including grant seeking and donor engagement.
  • Strong communication skills and a persuasive communicator.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary is competitive, ranging from $145,000 to $175,000, commensurate with experience. The role includes a generous benefits package. The organization currently operates on a hybrid model of in-person and remote work from its Williamsburg, Brooklyn office. Staff are expected to be in the office three days a week.
