ANNOUNCEMENT OPEN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION

FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC (FULL-TIME)

Streetsboro Fire Department is currently establishing an eligibility list for the Full-Time Firefighter/ Paramedic position. Although we currently do not have an opening, we anticipate openings in the near future.

Requirements and Qualifications

·         Must be twenty-one (21) years of age and a U.S. Citizen at the time of appointment.

·         Must present a copy of a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED

·         Must have a Current Certification Firefighters II from the State of Ohio Certification Card or present one at the time of appointment.

·         Must have a Current Certification as a Paramedic from the State of Ohio or present at the time of appointment.

·         Must have a Certification of Physical Agility Test from Cuyahoga Community College with a time of five (5) minutes or less, within the past 6 months or due at the time of appointment.

·         The Candidate must provide documentation to verify the identity and employment authorization for employment in the United States.

·         Required, once employed, to obtain Ohio Fire Safety Inspector Certification

Candidates who pass the NTN entry-level exam will be placed on the Streetsboro Fire Department’s eligibility list.

Streetsboro Fire Department will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.

Additional Credit:

Additional credit will be awarded to a passing NTN score. No additional credit will be awarded for a failing test grade. Candidates must turn in documentation of proof of any Additional Credit with the application in order to get Additional credit. (No more than 20% shall be added to the passing score.)

Education Credit: An additional 5% of the applicant’s passing grade will be awarded if the applicant submits proof of an Associate’s Degree in a related field or 10% for a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University (any field) with the original application.

Military Service Credit: an additional 20% of the applicant’s passing grade provided the applicant submits a copy of form DD-214 showing an honorable discharge with the original application.

Current City employees: an additional 20% of the applicant’s passing grade will be awarded to Streetsboro Part-time firefighters with 18 months of service and no discipline record.

The City of Streetsboro, located in Northeast Ohio, the Northwest corner of Portage County, is 25 square miles and has a population of 17,100.

The Streetsboro Fire Department provides fire, ALS emergency medical, and rescue services, utilizing modern equipment and technology. Our department is a combination department, staffing Full-time and Part-time firefighters, which include a Full-time Chief, Shift Captains, and Lieutenants, a Full-time Fire Prevention office, and 15 Full-time shift firefighters/paramedics. Our IAFF Local #4281 represents our 18 full-time employees with a great working relationship between labor and management.

Members have opportunities to pursue interests in fire prevention, fire safety education, fire investigation, technical rescue, water rescue, hazmat, and fire and EMS instruction, including participation on county-wide teams.

Job Description:

Firefighter/Paramedic

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

A Firefighter/Paramedic performs emergency work in the protection of life and property. A Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for the rapid and efficient performance of specialized duties under emergency conditions that may involve personal hazards. A major portion of the Firefighter/Paramedic’s time is spent in preparing to combat fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescue emergencies, and others as the needs arise. A Firefighter/Paramedic also performs routine work in the maintenance of fire station property and equipment. A Firefighter/Paramedic is subject to call-in at any time in the event of emergency.
