Department Overview:
The Northwood Fire Department currently consists of forty-two (42) part-time Fire and EMS personnel. This staff includes a Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, District Fire Chief, Captain, and six (6) Lieutenants.
The fire department provides fire suppression, fire prevention, public education, and advanced life support with transport to 8 square miles and a population of 5,400 residents. In 2023, the fire department responded to 1,390 calls for service. Due to an anticipated reduction in part-time response over the next several years and the increased growth of the city, the decision was made to hire our first full-time fire and EMS personnel.
Area Information: The City of Northwood is located in the middle of Wood County’s rapid economic growth near downtown Toledo. Northwood has a relatively large commercial and industrial base, with more people working than living in the city. Northwood is currently facilitating a large mixed-use community development and infrastructure project on city-owned property that was the site of a former 125-acre shopping mall. This mixed-use community, known as the “Enclave,” includes residential and commercial uses and a community recreation center.
