Title: Social Media Manager

The Social Media Manager works on a fast-moving communications team and creates compelling social media content across all platforms for the Giffords organization and its principals. From responding to breaking news to developing campaigns, the social media manager should be comfortable writing quickly for an online audience and distilling complex topics into compelling social media posts. The ideal candidate is an avid social media user and news reader, knows what works across different social platforms, and keeps up with politics and the latest trends.
This is a full-time position based in our Washington, DC office. This position requires frequent evening and weekend work, and up to 10 percent travel. All Giffords staff are expected to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This position will work a hybrid schedule based out of the DC office.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Own our social media accounts and create timely, cross-channel content on a daily basis that drives forward our message and priorities
- Identify creative new opportunities or campaigns to engage our followers, grow our following, and further our mission
- Plan for long-term social media campaigns and high-profile moments
- Monitor and identify breaking news, political news, and internet culture moments
- Interact with and uplift content from our followers, elected officials, candidates, partners, and influencers
- Write content and monitor social for engaging stories or videos in rapid response moments
- Develop social media toolkits to share with partner organizations
- Stay up to date on new features and best practices across relevant social platforms
- Audit our social media accounts for performance
- Monitor and respond to comments and direct messages
- Work closely with the Content Strategy Director to develop captivating graphics, social-first videos, and other digital assets
- Other duties as assigned
Required knowledge, skills + experience
- Two to five years of experience managing social media accounts for an organization or public figure, preferably with political or advocacy focus
- Advanced knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Threads, and TikTok
- Understanding of how social media can generate and shape news stories and online conversations
- Experience working in a fast-paced digital environment with shifting priorities
- Ability to embody the voice of an organization or individual
- Superior organizational skills and an exemplary attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic photography and video skills
- Strong dedication to the issue of gun violence prevention
- Shares Giffords’ commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and anti-racism
- Curiosity and willingness to bring new ideas to a team
- Strong interpersonal skills, sense of humor, and ability to collaborate well on a team
Valuable but not required knowledge, skills + experience
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, Snapstream, OBS, and WordPress
- Familiarly with the elements of graphic design
Salary + benefits
The salary range for this position is $58,000 – $75,000 annually with the exact salary dependent on experience. Competitive benefits include employer-funded health, dental, and vision insurance; health, transit, and parking flexible spending accounts; 401k plan with 4% employer match; reimbursement for cell phone and monthly wifi stipend, 25 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) annually plus paid week closure at the end of the calendar year; and ten paid federal holidays.
