Director of People

Website Grow Progress

Building cutting-edge persuasion technology for social good.

Grow Progress helps many of the largest progressive causes, campaigns, and consultants change the minds of more people.

We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of a team that’s pioneering a new approach to persuasion: giving our customers the power to persuade more people based on how they think — not just how they look.

If you want to make a big social impact and grow your skill set by helping to build an early stage organization as it quickly grows, we hope you’ll apply.

Who We Are
Grow Progress gives customers the power to persuade more people by tailoring their messages to match each audience member’s values. We help customers harness the latest persuasion science to create messaging that’s typically 200% to 500% more effective than their existing ads. We do this by predicting which personality traits and values are most important to each individual based on their digital footprints.

We’ve built powerful software that offers our customers unprecedented access to run scientific message tests quickly and affordably, so they can unlock the most effective messages. This capability powers campaigns, causes, and companies that make the world a better place. We currently work with many of the biggest Democratic pollsters, marketing agencies, advocacy groups, and labor unions in the country.

We’re a team of experienced campaigners, software engineers, and data scientists who are obsessed with harnessing the power of evidence to make social good advocates more effective. We’re ambitious, efficient, low-ego, and we like to make each other laugh.

Your Role
As the Director of People, you’ll report directly to the COO and be a strategic partner of our executive team as we scale our business and grow our people. You’ll be responsible for people development on our team. This includes the day-to-day of hiring, onboarding, career development, and managing compensation and benefits, but also the critical decision-making involved in building hiring plans and budgets and designing how we work to be more efficient. You will be in the room for big conversations and big decisions and have the opportunity to be a leader.

Demand for our products and services has been growing quickly, and in this busy midterm campaign year, we need your help to plan for the future beyond it. You will become an expert in how our teams operate and what they need in order to inform the models for hiring and organizational structure that you will build. You’ll identify the resources we need to be successful and make intelligent choices when faced with tradeoffs.

As a progressive technology company we have high expectations of ourselves and our organizational culture, even at our stage of maturity. We expect you to be a champion for our mission and our standards for ourselves in how we operate. We have a diverse and talented team and aim to make it even more so. We want everyone who steps into a role at Grow Progress to be able to grow themselves and to love their work.

Who We’re Looking For
As part of our team, you will:

  • Own and manage the People Team and its component operational and strategic functions including but not limited to payroll, compliance, recruiting, onboarding, and beyond
  • Master our business operations in order to recommend and implement more efficient workflows, org structures, and norms
  • Develop career pathways and compensation and benefit plans that entice prospective hires and reward our existing team as they grow
  • Serve as a guide to departments and senior leadership to ensure that we continue to improve the diversity of our team and the inclusivity of our practices
  • Build our culture with us — make work fun and engaging in a remote-first environment
  • Support ad hoc operations projects and lead new initiatives
  • Everything else. It’s a startup!

You’ll bring the following:

  • Hands-on and instructive experience in people team execution and strategy for a startup
  • A track record of hiring great people
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Empathy to be a thoughtful and caring partner to our employees and managers
  • Strong time management and organization, with the ability to oversee administrative tasks while also taking strategic ownership of longer term projects
  • Proactive mindset, anticipating what will be needed and doing it rather than requiring direction
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality, deal with conflict effectively, and manage difficult situations confidently and calmly
  • U.S. work authorization
  • Progressive values and an interest in politics
