Website gladlaw GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD)

Non-profit law firm working for justice for the LGBTQ+ community

GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) is one of the nation’s most influential and successful public interest law firms in the fight to end LGBTQ+ discrimination. Our work is guided by the values of Justice and Lived Equality; Inclusion, Equity, and Mutual Respect; Anti-Racism; and Collaboration (for more details, visit GLAD.org).

GLAD provides a supportive and friendly work environment dedicated to groundbreaking achievement for LGBTQ+ identifying people and people living with HIV. In cases all over the country, our allies seek the advice and guidance of GLAD’s seasoned, pioneering legal team. GLAD argued in front of the U.S. Supreme Court to secure a ruling that people with HIV are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act. GLAD’s legal team played a leading role in winning the freedom to marry—first in Massachusetts, then in a win before the U.S. Supreme Court. We successfully halted Trump’s ban on trans service members in the military – which President Biden later solidified through Executive Order. Further, our multiple groundbreaking victories throughout New England have reverberated across the nation.

GLAD has also deepened and sharped our focus on racial justice work, including through reforming and dismantling systems that we know disproportionately harm LGBTQ+ BIPOC, such as the criminal justice, juvenile justice, and child welfare systems. We offer staff opportunities to affect change on the interconnections of race and LGBTQ+ status through their day-to-day work, professional development opportunities, and participation in our Racial and Economic Justice Working Group and GLAD for Economic Opportunity committee.

The Development Department supports GLAD’s work by raising money from individual donations, fundraising events, corporate and grant funding. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Development, the Individual Giving Officer is a front-facing fundraiser who maintains their own portfolio of mid-level ($1,978-$3,000) donors while supporting donor engagement for other staff, Board members, and volunteers. They work with community-level giving donors to secure and grow their annual gifts and sponsorships; and steward and cultivate recurring donors who are giving up to $3,000 annually. The Individual Giving Officer staffs the Major Gifts Team and the Board Development Committee.

Qualifications: 1-2 years of development experience; ability to communicate effectively with donors and prospects in-person, online, by phone, and email; a working knowledge of managing donor relationships; organizational and communication skills.
