Political Manager for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo

Position Overview:

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, the first Latina and first woman to hold this position, is transforming the way we do government and is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and motivated Political Manager to join our team and shape the vision for the future of Harris County.

The Political Manager works closely with Judge Hidalgo to implement short- and long-term political plans, as well as execute political operations and activities, including overseeing budget and finances; managing all political staff, consultants, and vendors; managing HR; and onboarding new staff and vendors. The Political Manager reports directly to Judge Hidalgo.

About the Harris County Judge:

Lina Hidalgo was elected at age 27 to lead Harris County, the third largest and most diverse county in the nation, with a population of 4.7 million people (a population larger than 25 states). She was just re-elected to this position for her second term. Lina was born in Colombia during the drug war, so she knows firsthand the importance of public safety and the personal struggle for equality as an immigrant.

As Harris County Judge, the chief executive of the county, she has overseen the response to floods, fires, hurricanes, the Winter Storm and the COVID-19 pandemic. She has worked to reduce homelessness in Harris County by 20%, invest historic amounts into early childhood education, and make record investments in public safety. From doubling the budget for the Veterans’ Services Office, to instituting “Worst First” on flood recovery and more, Judge Hidalgo works every day to bring meaningful, positive change to Harris County’s millions of residents.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Works closely with Judge Hidalgo to implement her short- and long-term political priorities
Directly supervises staff by providing day-to-day operational direction, management, and coordination
Manages all aspects of fiduciary oversight, legal administration and adherence to campaign finance reporting requirements
Helps draft key statements and remarks for events on behalf of the County Judge
Defines roles and negotiates contracts with all vendors, consultants, and staff
Leads fundraising team in developing a significant and ongoing fundraising campaign
Hires and manages political and campaign staff
Monitors incoming political scheduling requests to make recommendations for Judge Hidalgo’s calendar and manage her political schedule
Coordinates all campaign travel and events
Drafts Judge Hidalgo remarks at political events
Staffs Judge Hidalgo at political events
Maintains relationships with senior advisors, advisory boards, and political stakeholders both inside and outside of Harris County
Continuously assesses and addresses the needs of Judge Hidalgo’s political operation and ensures it runs as efficiently and effectively as possible

Has previous experience building and managing high-performance teams

Holds self and others accountable for measurable, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
2 cycles of prior campaign experience, with at least 1 cycle in a leadership role preferred
At least 3 years of experience working on campaigns with increasing responsibility preferred
Demonstrated experience supporting a high-level elected official(s)
Understanding of VAN and NGP
Can absorb information and learn and develop new relationships quickly, if does not know Harris County politically
Significant experience managing multiple competing projects and deadlines
Extremely detail-oriented and organized

Salary:

Minimum of $65,000 annually
This is a full-time position
