MOVEON REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: PROOFERCORPS

MoveOn Overview:

MoveOn is the largest rapid response political campaigning organization in the United States. We wield independent political power by bringing millions together to take action and mobilize for a just society where everyone can thrive.

For more than a generation, MoveOn has been the home base for millions of people who refuse to accept the status quo and are moved to take action for progress. We have consistently been a bulwark against the radical right, channeling our voices to end wars, protect democracy, and advance justice for all.

Project title: ProofersCorps, MoveOn’s team of proofreaders

Project begins: May 11, 2026

Project length: Ongoing. Any hours given in a scope of work are an estimate and MoveOn does not guarantee a specific number of hours to its contractors.

Project Overview: MoveOn is expanding its ProofersCorps—a team of independent contractors responsible for proofreading and quality-checking all external communications produced by MoveOn. ProofersCorps members play a critical role in ensuring that MoveOn’s messaging is accurate, consistent, and polished before it reaches millions of supporters and the public.

This is a flexible, remote engagement. Proofers are not required to be available at set hours; instead, they work on assignments based on their own availability. However, when a proofer accepts an assignment, they are expected to complete it quickly, as MoveOn’s communications are often time-sensitive.

All proofers must pass a rigorous skills assessment prior to onboarding, demonstrating proficiency in English grammar and usage, AP Stylebook guidelines, and basic fact-checking.

RFP submission date: Please submit to [email protected] by midnight on May 1, 2026 and put PROOFERSCORPS in the subject line.

Scope of work: ProofersCorps members will be expected to:

Proofread a range of external MoveOn communications, including emails, text messages, social media posts, videos (scripts and captions), and presentations, ensuring each is accurate, error-free, clear, and consistent.
Apply AP style and MoveOn’s own style guidelines to all assigned materials, flagging and correcting any deviations in style as well as grammar, punctuation, spelling, usage, and factuality.
Complete assigned proofs in a timely manner. Given the rapid-response nature of MoveOn’s work, proofers must turn around assignments quickly once accepted.
Use Slack and Google docs proficiently.
Maintain confidentiality of all pre-publication materials reviewed as part of this engagement.
