Musawah seeks the services of a Social Media Consultant to support the Communications team in content creation for its social media platform, and other communication outputs for twelve (12) months.
Launched in 2009, Musawah is a global movement for equality and justice in the Muslim family, advancing the rights of women in Muslim contexts. The movement is composed of non-government organisations, activists, scholars, legal practitioners, policy makers, and grassroots women and men from around the world. Our areas of work are capacity building, knowledge building, international advocacy and communications; all of which drive our commitment for justice and equality in the Muslim family.

Objectives of assignment
1. To amplify Musawah’s activities, content, key messages and ensure effective online engagement and reach.
2. Under the guidance and supervision of the Digital Communications Programme Officer, the Social Media Consultant will develop and produce multimedia content in order to increase Musawah’s social media reach, engagement, visibility and followers.
3. The Consultant’s work will be evaluated on:
Quality of their content:
– Minimal language errors
– Minimal factual errors, with sources cited for knowledge-related content
– Alignment with Musawah’s current brand guidelines
Collaborativeness with the Communications team
Quality of the quarterly social media analysis and insight report
Evaluation criteria
1. Must be fully fluent in English and Arabic (speaking & writing);
2. At least 3 years of experience in digital communications, multimedia and social media work;
3. Demonstrable experience in creating social media content, especially for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X and LinkedIn, as well as experience with new media executions, preferably with a non-government organisation;
4. Experience with graphic design, ability to create designs for digital purposes in open source graphic design programmes such as Canva;
5. Experience with basic video editing;
6. Ability to integrate PR/communication initiatives with social media;
7. Familiar with reporting social media analytics;
8. Previous experience with non-government organisations is highly desirable;
9. Understanding of, or keen interest in, learning about women’s rights and feminism in Muslim contexts;
10. Organised, attentive to detail, willing to learn
Scope of assignment
The consultant is expected to work closely with the Digital Communications Officer and relevant Musawah team to:
1. Produce and post a minimum of six (6) social media posts, including one (1) short video under two minutes, per month, submit in Musawah’s content Calendar format for feedback, and amend content drafts accordingly. Each should comply with Musawah brand consistency in social media messages and visuals including format-specific designs for Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn platforms respectively. Multimedia work shall include explainers/infographics, memes, short videos, captions and hashtags for social media posts;
2. Monitor comments and interactions on Musawah’s social media accounts and engage with Musawah’s online community. This includes:
– Identifying and responding to inquiries comments and replies in close consultation with the Digital Communications Officer
– Removing objectionable and hate-speech comments when requested
– Driving online community engagement, as per Musawah’s ‘Guide to Social Media Responses’ document
3. Support the Digital Communications Officer in providing a quarterly social media analysis reports comprising all of the content published and its accompanying analytics and insights.
4. Monitor social media platforms for rights rollback risks, breaking news stories and trending topics concerning Musawah’s issues of concern and regions in which we work, and suggesting material from Musawah’s resources in response;
5. Join brainstorming sessions as and when required and proactively pitch for content.
Working arrangements
1. This consultancy is fully remote.
2. The contract duration is twelve (12) months.
3. The consultant will collaborate and liaise with the Digital Communications Programme Officer. Musawah will provide access to brand guidelines, company’s digital assets (external) folder, and other documents which would be relevant to the tasks assigned.
4. Content request process:
– Musawah will provide a brief to the Social Media Consultant
– Turnaround time for Social Media Consultant :
>Maximum 2 working days to produce social media content (visual and captions)
>Maximum 5-7 working days to produce a short video and captions
> 2 rounds of feedback by Musawah (maximum turnaround time: 2 days) with minimal edits on language
Reporting timeline and deliverables
The Scope of Assignment is expected to commence in April 2025 and will be in effect for twelve (12) months upon signing the agreement.
Reporting and deliverables:
a) On a monthly basis, the content creator consultant is expected to:
– Submit a draft content calendar with a minimum of six (6) social media posts, including two (2) short video under two (2) minutes,
– Incorporate feedback and submit a final draft content calendar,
– Post content according to calendar.
Each content should include format-specific designs for Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn platforms respectively. Potential multimedia works shall include explainers/infographics, memes, short videos, captions and hashtags for social media posts.
Timeline :
– Draft 1 to be submitted in 1st week of each month for feedback
– Draft 2 incorporating feedback to be submitted in 2nd week of each month
Posting to be done according to dates agreed upon in monthly content calendar
b) On a daily basis, monitor comments and interactions on Musawah’s social media accounts and engage with Musawah’s online community.
This includes:
– Identifying and responding to inquiries, comments and replies in close consultation with the Digital Communications Officer,
– Removing objectionable and hate-speech comments, when requested
– Driving online community engagement, as per Musawah’s ‘Guide to Social Media Responses’ document
