Department Overview
The Deerfield Township Fire Rescue (DTFR) Department operates from four fire stations, serving over 40,000 residents across 16 square miles. The department is overseen by the Fire Chief and his command staff, which includes four Deputy Fire Chiefs. Each fire station is managed by a Captain and two Lieutenants, with a daily maximum staffing level of 20 personnel. The department responds to approximately 5,000 emergencies per year.

Necessary Certifications:

Ohio Firefighter II
Ohio Paramedic
Additional Requirements:

Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification within one year of hiring
Hazardous Materials Technician training within one year of hiring

Hiring Process
Step One:
Submit application, resume, and cover letter.

Step Two:
Applicants who are not currently part-time DTFR employees must submit a valid Firefighter Mile or CPAT test.

Step Three:
EMS Patient Care Simulator Evaluation, completed with the Deputy Chief of EMS and the EMS Officer.

Step Four:
Panel Interview with six to seven department members of varying ranks.

Step Five:
Command Staff Interview conducted by the four Deputy Chiefs and Fire Chief.
Job offers are made following the completion of these interviews.

Conditional Job Offer:
Issued pending Township Board of Trustee approval and successful completion of Steps Six and Seven.

Step Six:
Psychological Evaluation.

Step Seven:
Post Job Offer Police & Fire Medical Examination (unless currently enrolled in the OP&F pension).
