The Trenton Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Emergency Services Dispatcher (ESD). Entry-level positions will be filled through testing with the National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates must complete the Ecomm National Exam and submit the required application packet. Experienced applicants with one year or more of full-time ESD experience can apply as lateral entry candidates and are not required to take the NTN test. Lateral candidates must submit a résumé with their application packets.
Application packets are available at the Trenton Police Department website and from the City of Trenton Administrative offices. Completed application packets must be submitted no later than 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Packets can be submitted in person or mailed to 11 E State St, Trenton, OH 45067.
Salary Information:
Full-Time: $51,937 – $62,004 annually, with the top salary reaching $65,998 in January 2025. A signing bonus may be negotiable for well-qualified, experienced candidates.
Part-Time: $18.00 – $24.09 per hour.

Department Overview:
The Trenton Communications Center dispatches emergency responders for police, fire, and EMS services and serves as the after-hours contact for all City departments.
Area Information:
Trenton, Ohio covers over 5 square miles in Butler County, located between Middletown and Hamilton on State Route 73, about 20 minutes from Miami University’s Oxford campus.

Hiring Process:
Entry-level candidates must pass the NTN ECOMM National Exam.

All candidates must pass an oral review panel, drug and alcohol screening, background investigation, medical exam, and psychological exam.
Disqualifiers:
Felony, Criminal Activity: No felony convictions.
Drug Use: No felony or pervasive misdemeanor drug use.
Financial: Any bankruptcy must be more than five (5) years old.
Job Description – Emergency Services Dispatcher:
Serve as the first point of contact for citizens entering the police station.
Receive and transmit radio communications to dispatch police, fire, and EMS units.
Maintain records, operate office equipment, verify vehicle license and registration information, and perform database queries.
Handle LEADS/NCIC entries and disseminate information to other agencies.
Process public records, monitor individuals in holding cells, and complete reports as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Licensure or Certification Requirements:
LEADS and CCH certification must be obtained within the first three months.
State of Ohio Notary certification must be obtained within the first six months.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work independently and manage dispatching functions.
Capable of coordinating multiple tasks under pressure, often in life-and-death situations.
Knowledge of FCC rules, public safety dispatching procedures, and police department policies.
Proficiency in using communication equipment, computer systems, and various office equipment.
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must pass random drug and alcohol testing.
Physical/Mental Abilities and Work Environment:
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment, with 24/7 scheduling availability.
Rarely: Lifting (less than 10 lbs.).
Occasionally: Bending, walking, and reaching overhead.
Frequently: Repetitive hand motions, color distinction, attention to detail, and focus.
