Position Title: Firefighter/Paramedic
The Gurnee Fire Department is seeking candidates for immediate vacancies and to establish an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. The starting annual salary is $82,195, with a top annual salary of $121,440.

Application & Testing Deadline: October 28, 2024
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications:

Licensed EMT-Paramedic in any state or nationally registered EMT-Paramedic.New hires in this category will be sent to the Fire Academy if not already certified as a Basic Operations Firefighter.
Paramedic Student in Good Standing (currently enrolled in a Paramedic program).New hires will be sent to the Fire Academy if not already certified as a Basic Operations Firefighter. New hires must obtain Paramedic licensure before completing their probationary period.
Licensed EMT-Paramedic and Illinois State Fire Marshal Certification as Basic Operations Firefighter.New hires in this category will receive an orientation and be assigned to a shift.

Other Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of hire
Maximum age of 35 at the time of hire (unless exempt per state statute)
Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Class B non-CDL or equivalent within six months of hire
Provide a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card with Ladder Climb certification completed within the last two years by the hire date
Successfully pass the FireTeam exam through the National Testing Network (NTN)
U.S. citizen or naturalized citizen
Complete the Gurnee Fire Department Employment Application no later than October 28, 2024
Applicants must self-schedule for the FireTeam exam, and all testing costs are the responsibility of the candidate unless eligible for a hardship fee waiver.
Examination and Interview Process:
FireTeam National Exam: Applicants must self-schedule and complete the exam by October 28, 2024.
Oral Interview: Eligible candidates will be contacted for an interview, anticipated to take place in November/December 2024.

Preference Points (maximum of 10 points):
Veterans’ Points: 5 points for military service with an honorable discharge
Educational Points: Up to 5 points2.5 points for an associate’s degree in fire service or emergency medical services
5 points total for a bachelor’s degree in any curriculum

Final Eligibility List and Post-Offer Screenings:
Candidates receiving an offer of employment must successfully pass additional post-offer screenings, including a medical exam, psychological exam, drug test, and background check.

Apparatus: 4 engines, 6 ambulances, 1 ladder truck, 1 heavy rescue squad
Calls per year: 8,000
