Department Overview: The mission of the Libertyville Fire Department is to protect the lives and property within our hometown by reducing the effects of fire, hazardous materials incidents, medical emergencies, special rescue emergencies, and disasters. It is for this reason that we strive to provide the highest possible levels of safety to our public by working in conjunction with representatives of local, state, and federal emergency response organizations to provide emergency services to our community.

Necessary Certifications :

Currently certified as a Basic Operations Fire Fighter or Firefighter II under the State of Illinois, Division of Personnel Standards and Education
Minimally a, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) EMT-B in good standing by the State of Illinois pursuant to applicable statutes and regulations at the time of application.
Applicants must meet and provide copies of the following minimum requirements and qualifications at the time of application submittal deadline:
• United States citizen or Naturalized citizen.
• Must be at least 21 years old and maximum age of 34 years (except as otherwise provided by state law).
• Graduation from high school or equivalent thereof.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Currently certified as a Basic Operations Fire Fighter or Firefighter II under the State of Illinois, Division of Personnel Standards and Education.
• Minimally a, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) EMT-B in good standing by the State of Illinois pursuant to applicable statutes and regulations at the time of application.
• CPAT Certificate with Ladder Climb Certification conducted by a licensed agency no more than 12 months prior to taking written exam
• Ability to Read/Speak English

 

Hiring Process :

Your Application: You must submit your completed application and required forms by Sept 3rd,  2024 at 4:00 pm to [email protected] or upload to NTN portal.
Written Examination: Successful completion of the FireTeam exam through National Testing Network.
Physical Eligibility Register: Candidates must show proof of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) which includes the required State of Illinois “ladder climb” portion from an approved agency no more than 12 months prior to taking the written examination.
Oral Interview: Oral Interviews will be held at the Libertyville Fire Department, as needed. This is a structured interview with the Libertyville Fire & Police Commission. Applicants will be notified of the date and time of their oral interview by mail.
Preliminary Eligibility Register: Candidates shall be placed on the Preliminary Register in the order of their relative excellence as determined by their written test scores.
Initial Eligibility Register: An Initial Eligibility list will be established from applicants on the Preliminary Register who have successfully passed the subjective oral interview.
Final Eligibility Register: This register is posted after application of all preference points allowed by the Fire and Police Commission.Military – 5 points. Awarded to applicants who have served a minimum of 12 months on active duty in the service of the U.S. Military and who have either been honorably discharged or, in lieu of an honorable discharge, are still serving in an active or inactive reserve status.
Education – 5 points. Candidates must have an associate degree in Fire Science or Emergency Medical Services from an accredited Community or Junior College or a bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited College of University.
Paramedic (EMT-P) – 5 points. Applicants must be licensed as an EMT-P at the time of application for points.
Following the posting of the Final Eligibility Register, applicants may be notified of openings depending on the Department’s personnel needs. Several remaining examinations, investigations, and interviews need to be completed and passed prior to becoming an employee of the Libertyville Fire Department as outlined in the following:
Background Investigation: Conducted by the Fire & Police Commission or other agencies. PASS or FAIL.
In-depth Psychological and Polygraph Examination: These examinations will be administered by a registered psychologist. PASS or FAIL.
Medical Examination: Following an offer of employment, an applicant will submit to a post-offer medical examination supervised by a licensed physician appointed by the Fire & Police Commission. A drug urine screen test will be required as part of the medical examination.
Applicants are not guaranteed employment with the Fire Department or by the Village of Libertyville; employment is conditional based on passing the post-offer medical examinations and drug screen. PASS or FAIL.
Regulations governing testing and eligibility are set forth in the Libertyville Fire & Police Rules and Regulations. The Fire & Police Commission reserves the right to schedule these exams and tests in sequence other than as stated above. The final list terminates no later than two (2) years and one (1) day from the date of posting. Candidates will be selected in rank order from the list according to excellence.
