Position Title: Patrol Officer
The City of Athens is accepting applications for Patrol Officer to establish an eligibility list. Patrol Officers work to preserve, protect, and enhance the quality of life for Athens residents by providing a range of professional police services in partnership with the community. This is a full-time, bargaining unit position classified under the City’s service, and it is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Salary Information:
Starting Hourly Rate: $28.07 to $35.68, depending on prior law enforcement experience.

Candidates must complete the National Testing Network (NTN) written exam and register for the test through the NTN website.

Job Requirements:
Age: Must be at least 21 and under 41 to be eligible, in accordance with Ohio law.
Citizenship: Must be a resident of Ohio at the time of appointment.
Education: High School Graduate or GED required.
College: A degree in police science, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, public administration, or business administration is desirable but not required.
Certifications:First Aid and CPR certification required.
Communications officer training to be completed before the end of probation.
The City of Athens will pay wages and tuition for successful applicants to obtain Ohio Peace Officer Training certification, if not already certified.

Background Removal Standards:
Candidates may be disqualified for the following reasons:
Honesty/Falsification: Any failure to disclose information regarding drug use, criminal activity, or other disqualifying behavior may result in removal.
Family History: Convictions of domestic violence or non-compliance with legal responsibilities, such as child support, may disqualify candidates.
Employment History: Multiple involuntary terminations or resignation in lieu of discipline may result in removal.
Military History: Dishonorable discharges or convictions under military law equivalent to a felony under Ohio law.
Traffic Violations: Serious or multiple driving violations may result in disqualification.
Illegal Substances: Recent illegal drug use, including marijuana or other controlled substances, may disqualify candidates.
Gambling or Criminal Activity: Convictions related to gambling or other crimes, including theft and fraud, may result in disqualification.
