Job Summary
The City of Salem is hiring for the position of entry-level Police Officer. As a leader in law enforcement in the Pacific Northwest, the Salem Police Department offers various special teams and units, including SWAT, Bomb Squad, Mobile Response Team, and others.

Minimum Qualifications
Testing Requirements:
Candidates must pass the National Testing Network (NTN) Frontline National Test and submit valid test results. The Oregon Physical Agility Test (ORPAT) must also be passed with a time of 6:30 minutes or less (5:30 minutes or less is required for graduation from the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training).
Age:
Must be at least 21 at the time of hire. Applicants aged 20 years and 6 months or older are encouraged to apply.
Citizenship:
Must be a U.S. citizen or able to attain citizenship within 18 months of hire.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Driver’s License:
Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon class C driver’s license or equivalent and meet the City of Salem’s driving standards.
Other Requirements:
Must pass a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana), background check, and a strict Police Department background investigation. Applicants must also be willing to work periodic overtime and a variety of rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Selection Process
Applicants must complete the City of Salem application, submit valid NTN and ORPAT (or equivalent) test scores, and ensure that scores are submitted correctly to the Salem Police Department. Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited for interviews.
Candidates who successfully complete the selection process will undergo a background investigation, medical and psychological assessment, and drug testing before receiving a final job offer.
