Job Requirements
Age: Minimum 20 years at the time of application and under 35 at appointment unless previously appointed as a law enforcement officer.
Citizenship: U.S. citizen.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
Driver’s License: Valid Ohio driver’s license.
Residency: Must reside within a 60-mile radius of police headquarters within six months of employment.
Physical Fitness: Must pass a physical fitness assessment.
Certifications: Ohio Peace Officer Certification required (can be obtained post-hiring).

Selection Process
Examination:Complete the National Testing Network (NTN) Law Enforcement Exam.
Apply scores to Grove City’s application process.
Application Submission:Submit the department application when openings are announced.
Evaluation Stages:Abbreviated background review and information sessions.
PRADCO assessment and online background questionnaire.
Physical fitness test for top NTN scorers.
Background investigation, police executive interview, and conditional offer.
Final Steps:Complete medical, psychological, and truth verification exams.
Sworn in and begin training academy.

Disqualifications
Honesty/Falsification:

Providing false information or failing to disclose disqualifying behavior.
Attempting to manipulate truth verification results.
Criminal History:

Felony convictions or domestic violence-related misdemeanors.
Recent theft offenses exceeding $1,000 or fraudulent claims.
Driving Record:

Convictions for major traffic offenses or DUII within the past three years.
Multiple moving violations or license suspensions.
Controlled Substances:

Illegal drug use within five years, including marijuana use within one year (medical exceptions considered).
Patterns of substance abuse or drug sales.
Employment History:

Multiple involuntary terminations or resignations in lieu of discipline.
Other Disqualifications:

Tattoos or body art deemed offensive or visible while in uniform (must be covered if not prohibited).

Working Conditions
Police Officers may encounter hazardous conditions, including exposure to extreme weather, violent individuals, or high-stress situations. Officers must be physically capable of lifting objects, subduing suspects, and performing job-related tasks with endurance and agility.

Equipment Used:
Motor vehicles, firearms, handcuffs, speed-measuring devices, breath testing kits, computers, radios, and other law enforcement tools.
