The Sandy Police Department is building an ongoing eligibility list for future vacancies for Patrol Officer—Recruit or Lateral. This position is open until filled. Check the City of Sandy website, https://www.ci.sandy.or.us/jobs, for any current openings and how to apply.
All Recruit candidates must complete the FrontLine National exam and must have ORPAT certification to be eligible for this position. ORPAT can be completed further in the process.
Lateral Transfers: Must meet all entry-level requirements and must have at least completed the Oregon DPSST Academy or another state’s equivalent of the Oregon Academy, and have successfully completed a probationary period of full-time paid service as a sworn patrol officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction immediately prior to application.
Salary Information: $33.00 – $39.24 plus incentives
Benefits Information: Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid vacation, sick, holiday and comp time, and PERS contribution. The City also provides a gym membership allowance and the ability to take home a vehicle within 30 miles of the city.

Job Requirements
Age: Must be 21 and over
Citizenship Required: Must be a US Citizen or actively becoming a US Citizen, or actively becoming a US Citizen within the next 18 months
High School Grad/GED: Yes, A high school diploma, GED, or its equivalent is required.
Valid OREGON Driver’s License: Yes. Possess and maintain, in good standing, a valid Oregon Driver’s Licensees.
Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
Vision: DPSST standard: Visual acuity corrected to 20/20, possess normal color discrimination and peripheral vision
Academy Certification: RECRUIT Only – Must attend and successfully complete the 16-week Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) academy and receive Basic Police Certification within one year of hire. CPR/First Aid and valid driver’s license.
SELECTION PROCESS:
- Complete the online application process through the City of Sandy Web Site – Recruit and Lateral
- Complete and pass the Frontline and ORPAT exam through the National Testing Network. – Recruit Only
- The candidate application packet will be reviewed every two weeks, with the first review occurring the week of April 15th. The candidate will be notified if invited for an Oral Board Interview, which would occur via Zoom or in person.
- Candidates that move forward from the Oral Board, will be placed on an Eligibility list with the future possibility of a Chief interview and hire pending an extensive Background Investigation. It will be required at that point to sign a release for background and complete a Statement of Personal History.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
MANDATORY MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must have excellent situational judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills, as demonstrated by past work history, interactions with others, and testing. Will need to pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT). (Recruit Only) Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with others from outside agencies. Reflect and adhere to the values and goals of the Sandy Police Department.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or another relevant field from an accredited institute of higher learning. Demonstrated the ability to actively listen, think critically, negotiate, persuade, apply applicable Oregon law and city ordinances, cultural sensitivity, and proper application of legal theory. Bilingual-English/Spanish.
