What’s interesting about this job?
The Community Organizer conducts grassroots organizing activities that engage supporters and build relationships in the state of Virginia, focusing on the Charlottesville and Roanoke communities. They provide key support to PPSAT’s political strategy, particularly around activating volunteers in electoral activities and helping to elect champions of sexual and reproductive health care, as well as engaging supporters in legislative efforts and issue-based campaigns. The Community Organizer will manage all aspects of community outreach in their designated region as well as build and manage a robust volunteer base and program.

Who you are: 
Experience with organizing in the state of Virginia, with a strong emphasis on experience in electoral organizing and relationship building.
Passion for, understanding of, and experience in organizing for abortion rights and reproductive freedom.
Experienced grassroots organizer, with at least two years of paid or unpaid campaign experience.
Experience utilizing organizing tools and tactics, such as canvassing and phone banking.
Experience organizing in rapid-response, goal-oriented, or deadline driven moments.
Talented interpersonal communicator, capable of engaging and developing relationships.
Outgoing leader and communicator.
Experienced time manager.
Someone who can work both independently and as part of a team.

What you’ll do: 
Grassroots and electoral organizing in Virginia – including some travel between the two assigned regions (Roanoke and Charlottesville).
Recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers and community activists – particularly around elections and legislative efforts.
Manage relationships with grassroots volunteers and supporters.
Execute rapid response events during legislative, electoral, or issue-based campaign peaks.
Implement grassroots organizing tactics, such as canvassing, voter engagement, phone banking, relational organizing, etc.
Develop connections and foster leadership with local student groups, as well as manage Planned Parenthood Generation Action student organizations.

Flexible Schedule:  
Full-time position working 40 hours per week. Hours are typically Monday through Friday 9AM to 5PM working remotely or on-site.  This position requires occasional night and weekend work.

Compensation:
PPSAT’s compensation philosophy is based on equity and transparency.  Each job at PPSAT is assigned to a salary grade built on market data.  For an individual coming into PPSAT, we set a pay generally between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary grade and based on candidate qualifications.  For this position, the minimum is $23.35 and the midpoint is $27.55 per hour.
