SUMMARY
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, is searching for a State and Local Finance Director to join our State and Local Campaigns team. The State and Local Finance Director assesses the fundraising and campaign operations of down ballot constitutional, state legislative, and some key local races in their assigned region of the country. This position also serves as a lead trainer for advanced fundraising trainings.

This position will require extensive travel. The State and Local Finance Director position is a remote position and will cover targeted races in the Western part of the country. Candidates should reside within the region near a major airport after hiring.

Essential Job Functions

  • Working with, advising, and training candidates, campaign managers and finance directors on all aspects of fundraising;
  • Writing fundraising plans using foundational tools and strategies with measurable goals;
  • Building a finance operation and process that is effective and meets the budgetary goal;
  • Establishing strong call time programs, including tracking systems, script development, and call time observation;
  • Setting up databases to maintain campaign fundraising records;
  • Writing effective fundraising solicitation and re-solicitation mail and email that are in compliance with all state finance laws as needed;
  • Hiring finance consultants, setting up contracts, and other related business aspects of the fundraising operation;
  • Developing and assessing overall campaign budgets in conjunction with the Regional Director.
  • Recruiting, training and identifying qualified and well-suited finance directors and other fundraising staff in partnership with campaign leadership and when necessary, key partners;
  • Tracking cash flow, progress to goal, and other measurements of progress in fundraising operations;
  • In tandem with Regional Directors, build and maintain working relationships with appropriate staff in the caucuses and other key partners in state;
  • Developing an intimate understanding of state- and locality- specific campaign finance laws as necessary with the program priorities;
  • Utilize EMILY’s List database software and tracking systems to maintain records across region;
  • Identifying innovative tools and strategies for effective and efficient campaign fundraising;
  • Collaborating with the Run to Win team to present fundraising best practices to the Run to Win Community;
  • Working with the Regional Directors and EMILY’s List communications team to highlight fundraising strength of our targeted races when appropriate;
  • Assist with and help lead the EMILY’s List fundraising training program, including training and curriculum development;
  • Travel extensively as needed;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • The State and Local Finance Director must be a self-starter and results-oriented with a minimum of three years of campaign fundraising experience with demonstrated growth in skills and responsibilities.
  • Candidates must have served as in-house Finance Director on at least one campaign at the state or federal level;
  • Must have experience in writing and executing a strategic finance plan which includes principal call time, events and digital solicitation;
  • Must have experience working directly with candidates, including principal management;
  • Must have extensive Excel skills and familiarity with NGP Software and ActBlue;
  • Experience in managing donor research programs and expanding new donor networks preferred;
  • Experience in training and managing staff preferred;
  • Fundraising event planning experience preferred;
  • A fundamental knowledge of state election laws preferred;
  • Experience in facilitating individual and group training sessions preferred;

The salary for this position is $90,000 – $112,000 and comes with a comprehensive benefits package.
