Description: The Political Director is responsible for building the Democratic base through outreach and intentional engagement in various communities. They act as the liaison between elected officials, caucuses and constituency groups, coordinated campaigns, and other appropriate organizations to build stronger grassroots capacities for Texas Democrats.
Report to: Executive Director
Location: This is a full time, in-person position based in Austin, TX. This role will require occasional statewide travel.
Core Responsibilities:
- Manage political department programs and staff.
- Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders (elected officials, candidates, allied groups, other partners, etc.).
- Develop an annual customized priority work plan for outreach to different constituency groups.
- In partnership with the county services and organizing departments, serve as a liaison between party organizations, activists, partner organizations, and the State Party.
- Organize and conduct regular conference calls with affinity groups (i.e. labor, environmental, faith, etc).
- Assist other departments (i.e., communications, digital, legislative and organizing) in rapid response and other urgent communications or direct action moments.
- Lead on the TDP’s candidate recruitment, training, and support effort for statewide and down ballot congressional and state legislative districts.
- Act as an informational resource for candidates and campaign managers to familiarize them with Texas Democratic Party practices and procedures.
- Help coordinate GOTV efforts by and among local committees and campaigns
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Required Skills:
- 5 or more years of experience working in politics
- Deep political relationships across Texas and throughout the Democratic Coalition
- 2 or more years of experience managing and coaching staff to meet goals
- You are a people person who excels at building relationships and finding solutions to difficult situations
Preferred Experience:
- Experience at a senior level on a competitive candidate campaign in Texas
- Experience working as a paid staff member on a statewide coordinated campaign
- Experience building and overseeing a political and/or constituency program

Start Date: End of April – Early May
Employment Type: This is a Texas-based full-time permanent position and will include some nights and weekends.
Salary: $85,000 annually. The Texas Democratic Party offers medical, vision, and dental insurance. Employee’s insurance premiums are paid fully by TDP.
