General Overview

We’re working to make sure young people are engaged in elections this fall. As a Campus Organizer, you will be responsible for running a focused and intense volunteer recruitment drive to recruit 50 volunteers to register young voters on campus to make sure their voices are heard in the 2022 midterm elections.

Locations and Timeline

We are hiring campus organizers for this position from August 15th through November 8th 2022.

Organizers will be working in one of the following 7 college communities: Ann Arbor, Detroit, East Lansing, Mount Pleasant, Ypsilanti, Allendale, and Kalamazoo.

What You’ll Do

  • Recruit and train dozens of volunteer activists
  • Call  volunteers on campus and recruit them to grassroots actions
  • Identify new volunteers by gathering petitions and making announcements in public
  • Run grassroots skills trainings to develop effective campaigners among volunteers
  • Keep meticulous track of a volunteer list so that no potential activist falls through the cracks

Volunteer leadership development

  • Host and help to run weekly campaign meetings to develop a community of leaders
  • Pitch and train volunteers to take on leadership responsibilities
  • Run a paid fellowship program to train top leaders to lead voter registration efforts

Run a campus voter registration and Get Out the Vote campaign

  • Recruit and train dozens of volunteer canvassers for daily shifts
  • Manage 3-6 part-time paid fellows to hit campaign deliverables
  • Nail 100% of all administrative and legal requirements and ensure that volunteers do the same
  • Make thousands of Get Out The Vote contacts
  • Organize and execute Vote Tripling trainings for volunteers and supporters and schedule them into  in-person Election Day shifts

Nice-to-Haves, but Not Required:

  • Experience working for nonprofits, electoral campaigns, and/or other issue campaigns
  • Data Management and Evaluation Experience: Experience working with various data management systems and tools, mainly Google Suite.
  • Experience with Relevant Campaign Tools and Technologies: Action Network, ThruText, MailChimp, eCRMs like EveryAction, VoteBuilder(VAN)  or social media tools (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
  • Event or Project Planning & Management, Implementation or Evaluation
  • Prior campaign experience is a plus, but are not a requirement for this role.

  •  Recruiting, training and developing volunteers to register voters in Michigan through events, pledge to vote card collection, canvassing, and relational organizing
  • Engaging and expanding a volunteer support network through public visibility actions, voter outreach, and relationship building
  • Planning and executing Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts to turnout

Salary, Benefits and Perks

The salary for this position is $962-$1250 weekly depending on experience. Salary within this range is determined through an equity calculator. As part of The Outreach Team’s commitment to compensation equity and transparency, we have a no negotiation policy. Salary negotiations can introduce bias and perpetuate wage inequality. At the end of the campaign, there may be opportunities for advancement. We offer a generous benefits package, including:
