The Wisco Project

The great swing state of Wisconsin often feels like the center of the political and public policy universe, especially during an election year. Major outcomes from abortion rights to voting access often ride on just how many Wisconsinites decide to stay home or show up at the polls. A lot of pressure, right?

Luckily, Wisconsin has a super power: it’s young voters. Over 300,000 college students call Wisconsin home – when we organize on campuses, students vote.

Building on work started during the April 2023 Supreme Court Election, we’re building a scrappy and innovative organization that will organize and inspire thousands of college students to vote in the 2024 elections.

What Will You Do?

Campus organizers will work on key campuses across Wisconsin to build organizations that engage students, provide value to young people, mobilize voters for the spring elections, and prepare systems for key 2024 races. We will start hiring our first wave ASAP, with additional hiring opportunities through November 2024. This position will be based at one of Wisconsin’s universities and requires a significant amount of in-person work.

This is not a conventional organizing position. You will be asked to think outside the box, and be gritty-as-hell to build a startup that empowers young people for many elections to come.

Responsibilities Include:

Draft plans for your campus program in the upcoming cycle and assist in shaping the overall vision for the organization in 2024.
Recruit, train, and manage a team of students volunteers and interns who will mobilize their peers and create a movement on campus
Manage fun and engaging events to educate students about the upcoming elections and empower them to organize their peers.
Conduct direct voter contact through door-knocking/dorm-storming, high traffic canvassing, texting, and calls
All other duties as assigned.

Who Are You?

As a successful candidate for this job, you will:

Have a passion for progressive politics and inspiring young people to get involved
Be excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective GOTV tactics.
Be eager to talk to as many students as possible (and be comfortable talking to a lot of strangers/potential volunteers).
Be scrappy and flexible; able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
Be a self-starter, exceptionally well-organized, and have strong time management skills.
Have a driver’s license and access to a reliable car.
Be able to work weekends and irregular hours as required.
Be located near or be willing to relocate to one of our focus campuses.
Previous experience organizing for an electoral campaign is a plus; previous experience with campus organizing is a bigger plus. Neither are required.

Job Details: Compensation for this role starts at $4,300/month plus benefits. This is a full time role with a target start date ASAP and run through November 2024. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, veteran status or any other protected category under local, state or federal law.

We see diversity of all kinds as essential to doing our work well. We strive to build a team that reflects the diverse composition of America itself. We strongly encourage applications from structurally marginalized and under-represented communities and experiences to apply.
