SUMMARY
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, is searching for a Major Gifts
Director to join our Development team. The Major Gifts Director works with the Chief
Development Officer to lead the team responsible for all major gifts fundraising, managing donor
programming and events and directly supervising mid-level fundraisers and support staff.

Essential Job Functions
● Manage the operational and programmatic work of the Major Gifts team, which is
responsible for engaging major individual donors and institutional partners.
● Directly supervise a team of five, including two mid-level fundraisers and three staff who
support core functions of the Major Gifts team, including call time, principal scheduling,
event support, donor materials, and database management.
● Work with mid-level fundraisers and Regional Finance Directors to project revenue,
budget for expenses, and implement annual fundraising plans.
● Work cross-functionally with senior leadership and staff at EMILYs List to fully support
the Major Gift team’s efforts and ensure the Major Gifts team is equipped with the
materials and information they need to successfully reach their goals.
● Ensure necessary information flows to and from the Major Gifts team and internal and
external stakeholders.
● Help develop and manage regional and Washington, DC events and high-touch donor
engagement activities.
● Collaborate with the Executive team on principal travel schedules.
● Interact closely with EMILYs President and Executive Director in outreach, cultivation
and stewardship of major donors across the country.
● Liaise with other staff in the Development and Digital departments to ensure
collaboration and cohesion across fundraising channels.
● Other duties as assigned.
● Travel is required as needed for events and meetings.
Qualifications
● The Major Gifts Director must have a minimum of six years of experience in fundraising
and direct major donor solicitation. Formal management experience is preferred.
● Candidates should be innovative self-starters, able to work with a wide variety of people,
demonstrate an ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and produce results.
● Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Raiser’s Edge or fundraising/salestype
databases is a plus.
● Campaign and/or political experience is beneficial but not required.

The salary range for this position is $122,000 – $141,000 and comes with a comprehensive

MAJOR GIFTS ASSISTANT

Assistant to join our Major Gifts team. The Major Gifts Assistant provides administrative
support to the Major Gifts team, including database and resource management, research and
document preparation, and event coordination.

Essential Job Functions
● Maintain development database in Raiser’s Edge and other team resources and shared
documents in both Google Drive and our internal server.
● Enter and update donor pledges and contributions in Raiser’s Edge.
● Complete data entry, reporting, and tracking related to fundraising, compliance, and
campaigns, ensuring information is organized, updated, and accurate.
● Process department invoices, including from fundraising consultants and outside
vendors.
● Prepare and mail acknowledgement letters in coordination with the Major Gifts Manager
and Executive Office.
● Conduct donor research, including identifying prospect and upgrade targets.
● Draft fundraising materials as needed.
● Provide logistical and administrative support for fundraising events, including tracking
RSVP’s, handling donor information, and staffing in-person events.
● Assist with scheduling and note taking for meetings and events.
● Work with the Major Gifts Manager, Major Gifts Coordinator, and Major Gifts interns to
respond to team requests and donor inquiries.
● Facilitate collaboration between the Major Gifts team and other departments by working
with assistants and coordinators across the organization.
● Plan and maintain the schedule for the Chief Development Officer.
● Coordinate hiring, training, and project management for department interns as needed,
along with the Major Gifts Manager and Major Gifts Coordinator.
● Perform other duties as assigned.
● Adapt to shifting demands and priorities based on event schedules and upcoming
elections, including potential travel and occasional work on nights and weekends.
Qualifications
● The ideal candidate will be an organized, detail-oriented self-starter who can work well
under pressure, with a variety of people, and on multiple projects.

● Fundraising, event planning, campaign, or political experience is a plus.
● Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Raiser’s Edge or another
contact management database is a plus.

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist plays an integral role in the Human Resources function. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist ensures accurate payroll and efficient benefits administration and works closely with the HR and Operations Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions

  • Processes semi-monthly payroll processing;
  • Administers benefit enrollment elections and ensures accurate deduction reconciliation;
  • Manages annual retirement plan audit and coordinates with accountants;
  • Liaise with Benefit brokers, plan advisors, and other benefit plan providers;
  • Communicates important payroll and benefits notifications, reminders, and changes to staff;
  • In concert with the Chief Administrative Officer, manages the annual open enrollment process ensuring that all rates are updated, and systems are accurately reflected;
  • Ensures EMILYs List is compliant with all state and federal laws and regulations;
  • Ensures that state tax (and other municipalities) requirements are met with payroll provider;
  • Ensures timesheets are submitted and approved timely; 
  • Conducts new hire orientation and coordinates staff onboarding and offboarding process;
  • Assists with the recruiting process to include conducting social media vets and background checks;
  • Assists the Deputy Director of HR and Operations with the annual performance review process;
  • Manages union dues administration and communicates with union representatives as required.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate must have a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience including processing payroll and administering benefit plans
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work with a sense of urgency and meet tight deadlines while handling complex and confidential issues that require resolution
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws and experience setting up new states for tax purposes
  • The candidate must have strong attention to detail; 
  • Experience using HRIS systems, experience with Paylocity HRIS is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff
  • A PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.

The Digital Department is responsible for engaging and growing the EMILY’s List community and providing online resources for EMILY’s List candidates. The department works closely with the Campaigns, Training, Development, and Communications teams to ensure our online program advances the organization’s fundraising, messaging, and electoral priorities.

The Digital Assistant plays a crucial role on this team, providing administrative support to the Vice President of Digital and department, ensuring our online properties are up-to-date, and that special projects are planned and executed efficiently.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide administrative support to the Vice President of Digital, including travel and expenses;
  • Manage administrative tasks for the digital department, including coordinating meeting agendas and logistics;
  • Publish day-to-day updates to the EMILYs List website, including making sure the homepage and candidate donation pages are up-to-date;
  • Manage internal fulfillment projects for digital promotions, such as sustainer upsells and merchandise;
  • Assist in the drafting and production of content for our email, social media, and SMS programs and the website as directed;
  • Manage and onboard the digital interns;
  • Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Candidates for this position must be extremely detail-oriented, committed to discretion and confidentiality in the performance of their duties, and be calm and composed under pressure. Strong interpersonal communication skills are critical to success.
  • Ideal candidates will have some familiarity with Excel and strong writing skills.
  • Candidates should be able to handle multiple projects at once and work well under deadlines.
